 Greetings!
March is here! We have a lot of things coming up: Spring Break, Awards Ceremony, T shirt Day, and an opportunity to help the commmunity. More information follows.
I am working on talking wih EACH child EACH Center visit. This helps me with my lesson planning and also helps me keep in touch with/motivate each child. They seem really excited about this new approach and I'm enjoying getting to know them each a little better!

| Help Hurricane Ike Victims Saturday, March 21
As you know, Kumon teaches children not just Reading and Math, but also good character traits such as perseverance, setting goals, organization, and self confidence. One character skill not usually emphasized with the Kumon Program is compassion and reaching out to others in need. It is with that in mind that I offer this suggestion to your family.
Due to the CFISD Spring Break, Kumon Steeplechase will be closed on Saturday, March 21. However, on this day, you can take advantage of an opportunity to teach your child the rewarding feeling of helping someone in need. While our area was thankfully not badly hit, many fellow Texans are still feeling the pain and the disrupted lives caused by Hurricane Ike.
My church, St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church in Copperfield, is sponsoring a day of helping those less fortunate. You do not need to be a member, an Episcopalian or even a Christian to participate. All you need is a heart to help others out of a situation you're grateful you didn't have to face, and teach your child some valuable lessons along the way.
Work will include mucking out of homes, cleaning, painting, cleaning up debris, a little sheetrock repair, moving items, and other fairly simple tasks.
Constraints: no child under the age of 5, and children must be accompanied by an adult. We will meet in the church parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and then go to our assigned projects. At 4:00 that afternoon there will be a cookout at the church (overseen by Kumon Steeplechase's own Mrs. Jan!) for those who wish to come and share the satisfaction of a day of doing good for those around us.
If you are interested in participating, please LET ME KNOW BY MARCH 5 so I can pass the info along to the organizers. We need to make sure we have the right amount of work (and food) for those who turn out. |

We have placed pictures of many of the students attending our Center on our web site for your enjoyment. Check it out and see whether your child has some friends going to Kumon s/he didn't know about! Also, if you would like your child's picture added/removed/changed, please email me. A digitized photo is easiest to handle but we can scan your photo here if you would prefer. We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures of all these beautiful children! Hopefully getting to see all the children doing Kumon will help encourage your child in his/her Kumon studies as well.

 March 6 is Kumon Tee Shirt Day!
Have your child wear his or her orange Kumon tee shirt to school on Friday, March 6, then sign this newsletter to verify their participation, and your child will receive an EXTRA 20 KUMON DOLLARS! WOW! You know how excited they get about Kumon dollars, and this will give them a chance to see who else in their school goes to Kumon. For those schools with uniforms, please have your child wear a Kumon stopwatch around their neck that day should dress codes allow, or use Kumon pencils only that day. See us if you need us to provide the orange shirt, stopwatch, and/or pencils.
After your child has participated, simply sign below and have your child turn in this newsletter at the Checkin Window to receive his 20 Kumon Dollars!

 Awards Ceremony Sat. April 18 at the Berry Center
Remember our annual Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 18, at noon at the beautiful Berry Center, the CFISD multipurpose complex located at the corner of Barker-Cypress and West. The ceremony will last about an hour and be followed by a cake and punch reception. Only those receiving awards for Honor Roll, G by 5, Math Level J Completion, or Program Completion will obtain a trophy, but all students are welcome to come and observe how we honor those who have stayed with the Program long enough to attain these impressive goals. Of course, friends, relatives and teachers are also invited. We have a really great video I'm looking forward to sharing with you before handing out the trophies.
I am looking through the lesson plans now and trying to do what I can to qualify as many of the children as possible for an award; however, if it is unrealistic to get there in time for this year's ceremony, there is always next year's! |
