THE 4 'G'S OF OUR MISSION
With the advent of the mission statement at Milwaukie Lutheran Church, it's time to get those words into our bones. They are our marching orders, as it were. Here's the first sentence:
Milwaukie Lutheran Church is a gathering and scattering of people,
grounded in the love of God,
guided by the Holy Spirit,
reaching out to share the Good News of Christ Jesus.
Think of 4 'G's as you take these words to heart: Gathering, Grounded, Guided, Good News. How do the words sound in your ear? Do you hear God speaking to you through them? How might God be leading our church in mission through them? We will explore some of these questions in the months ahead.
May your summer be a time of recreation and re-creation.

| Sanctuary Renewal Committee |

This is the first of many updates that you will be receiving from us as we move through the discernment process of creating a sacred space that "welcomes", "witnesses", and "provides a sanctuary of care, service and learning for all ages". Our journey is guided by the Holy Spirit through prayer, conversation, listening to our fellow congregants, our new Mission statement, and a reference book titled Holy Places: Matching Sacred Space with Mission and Message. We will also have the assistance of a consultant from the Mission Investment Fund who specializes in helping congregations through this process. At no cost to us, she will share her experience and expertise in the planning, the architectural design, and the implementation. Our first and introductory meeting was June 7. Another update will follow our next meeting scheduled for June 29. Please hold our committee in your prayers.

| MLC Summer Blood Drive |

Red Cross Donors: The MLC Summer blood drive will be here soon. The American Red Cross is counting on Milwaukie Lutheran to donate 20 units on Tuesday July 7th. Can I count on you to help meet our goal? Blood supplies hit critical lows during the summer months due to a higher accident rate associated with summer activities and travel. Then add the challenge of fewer people available to donate due to summer vacations. All this means we need your help. Click here to read the complete article on page 1 of the newsletter. |
| Annual Spiritual Life and Growth Retreat Slated |

November 6-8, 2009
The Cedars in Estacada
This year we have the pleasure of welcoming Jack Kennedy, retreat facilitator, Spiritual Director and teacher, who will walk with us through a process for discernment. Discernment is a vital part of our spiritual journey...what are we being called by God to do in not only our spiritual life but our day to day living as well? We need firm commitments from people no later than August 31 in the event we would not have enough participants and would need to cancel our reservation. The cost per person is $130 which includes 5 meals, snacks, materials and towels and linens. An additional $5 would be required for single rooms (which are limited). | Day Camp Is Coming! |

| It's that time of year to start thinking about Day Camp! This year it will be on August 10th - 13th from 9 AM - 3 PM. (Kindergarten goes 9 - 11:30). Cost is a suggested donation of $40 per child. Kids going into kindergarten - 8th grades are encouraged to participate this year. As always Lutherwood will be sending four fun loving councilors to run a crazy fun camp! Look for registration materials in the mail or come talk to Brian Brown or Barb Johnson. We also will need Senior High and adult volunteers so put the dates on your calendar. | We remember in prayer those who seek health and healing, and we pray for our leaders and leaders of other nations, also for those who are in service, for the grieving, and for the newly baptized. All prayers are welcome. Please read more details in our Web newsletter. |
