Greetings!
Where I live, the temperatures are soaring right now. We have been having 90 to 105 degree weather almost every day! With temperatures like that, my family and I are trying to find every way we can to "beat the heat" and stay cool. Have you heard the old saying, "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen?" This week I will share some wonderful recipes, tips, and more to help your family stay "cool as cucumbers" this summer! Sno Cones are a favorite treat at my house. They are so simple and easy to make! Skip To My Lou has just posted a recipe for making your own sno cone syrup! Frugal, fun, and coolness all in one--that's my kind of treat! |

Recipe of the Week |
Peanut Banana Smoothie Popsicles
I like this recipe because of the natural ingredients and the protein from the peanut butter. On those hot summer afternoons, it is nice to cool off with a sweet treat, but I know my children do better if there is a little protein added to it to hold them over. You can substitute any other nut-butter that you prefer in this recipe. I have tried it with almond butter, and it was delicious! If you are feeling a little more adventurous, a little chocolate syrup can also be added to give it an extra kick!
In your blender, combine:
2 bananas
1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tablespoons honey
enough milk to make a nice smoothie consistency
two big handfuls of ice (or more if you like)
Pour into popsicle trays and freeze. |

Cooling Bandana
Have you ever heard of a cooling bandana? They are the neatest thing, and they actually work. I found a tutorial online where you can make your own, and it is so much cheaper than buying one already pre-made. You can check out the tutorial at Blisstree. If you make one, be sure and email me the photo and I will post it on the blog! |
