The Beacon Issue No. 7, Fall 2009
Greetings!

At last a new issue of the Beacon.  High printing costs and increased postage rates forced us to publish The Beacon in electronic form starting with this issue. From now on we hope to publish positive and interesting news about the Orlando Apopka Airport more frequently.
New Businesses
First Landings OAA has several new additions to its list of businesses.  Ackerman Aviation and Central Florida Aviation are now offering a full range of aviation maintenance services and First Landings Aviation is offering sport pilot instruction and aircraft rentals.

Each business owner has invested time, money and massive effort into Orlando/Apopka Airport as they work to achieve the "American Dream" in spite of the struggling economy.  Please support these new businesses and all of the other small businesses at OAA.
OAA Improvements
New Road Several improvements have been made to our airport recently.

First - in case you missed the News Flash - we have a new road!  It is a real pleasure to drive onto the field without having to detail our van.  Even better, buyers are now using the new road.  Since the paving there has been a hangar sold and a lot under contract. This is a good sign after seven months of stagnant sales.

Another positive impact on our values is the thorough mowing. The airport now looks clean, neat and well cared for rather than rundown and neglected.

A common used-oil collection site has been ordered and will be available to owners.  It will be kept in a secure location to prevent non-owners from using the drum.

A PAPI is in the process of being installed on runway 33.  You can see the pad for it as you enter the airport to the right of the road.

Lastly, the mailboxes now have a paved pull-off and new sod.  Until now, this area has been a messy sand pit.

Be sure to look for all of these improvements the next time you visit.
Aerial Wildlife & Environmental Surveys
Eagle Nest Many people are not aware that the Florida Fish & Wildlife and St. Johns River Water Management District use Orlando/Apopka Airport as a base for their wildlife surveys. Both agencies have contracts with Bentley Aviation to lease aircraft from them while Brokaw Davis serves as their pilot.

Brokaw's extensive experience as a photo pilot has also made him popular among several aerial photographers.  Currently photo flights fill most of his schedule.  If you ever wondered how eagles and manatees were counted and birds were tracked - now you know.
Visual Tour of Orlando /Apopka Airport
Ever since the hangars started going up at the new OAA we have been asked so many times... "what's in those buildings?"  The other question we get is "are they full?"

We try to explain, but the answer is so broad that we decided to put it in a visual tour.  I'm sure we will add to it soon since the airport is growing so fast - but for now here it is!

We hope you enjoy  this as much as we did making it.  Feel free to email the link to friend when they ask you to explain OAA.

Need a golf cart?  This fellow OAA owner has a special offer!

These carts work great for moving aircraft and for getting around the airport!  407-295-3279 - www.Edgewatercustomgolf.com
