... our most intense facial yet!

This One Hour Facial is similar to our 100% Organic Eminence Yam & Pumpkin Peel, but even more potent and refining.  It combines the power of the naturally exfoliating AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) peel with powerfully clarifying Paprika and healing Pineapple. It also contains the juices of 100% organic Blueberries, Blackberries, and Raspberries. Full of vitamins and anti-oxidants, these berries have been shown in studies to contain some of the highest levels of phytoestrogens found in nature.  The addition of Grape Extract and Eminence's exclusive Bio-Complex (Vitamin A, Ester C, E, & Coenzyme Q10).  After just one treatment, your skin will be naturally exfoliated and purified, leaving it healthier and more youthful.  The Facial concludes with the application of Eminence's nourishing and soothing Hibiscus Calendula Recovery Masque.

Winter & Chinese Medicine
Winter is the time of year to reflect on our health, replenish our energy, rest and conserve our strength.
Winter is Yin in nature, it is inactive, cold and damp.  It is ruled by the water element, which is associated with the kidneys, bladder and adrenal glands.  The taste is salty, the sense organ is the ears and the emotions are fear and depression.  Remain introspective, restful and consolidate your Qi (energy) for the upcoming outburst of new life in the Spring.
According to TCM the kidneys are considered the root of all Qi within the body.  They store all of the body's Qi to be used in times of stress and change, to heal, prevent illness and age gracefully.  During the Winter months it is important to nurture and nourish our kidney Qi, because it is the time where this energy can be most easily depleted.
Avoid raw foods during the Winter as they are too cooling for the body.  Eating warm foods helps to reserve the body's core energy and keep us nourished.  Sleep well, go to bed earlier, stay warm and use less energy daily.

Some dietary suggestions:
Soups and stews
Root vegetables and beans
Whole grains
Garlic and ginger
Roasted nuts
Miso and seaweed
Happy New Year!
Chinese New Year begins 2.14.2010 and is the year of the Tiger. The Tiger symbolizes power, passion and daring.  This will definitely be an explosive, big bold year.  Unpredictable, everything good and bad, can and will be carried to extremes.  Fortunes can be made and lost.  Tempers will flare and it will be a trying time for diplomacy.  A year of massive change with the introduction of new, bold and especially controversial ideas.
You are a Tiger if you were born in:
1914
1926
1938
1950
1962
1974
1986
1998
... or expected to arrive in 2010
Tiger traits:  aggressive, courageous, candid and sensitive

This Winter, why not treat yourself to the luxurious soul-warming experience of a Healing Stone Massage?
A truly customized snowflakesexperience, gently warmed, smooth stones are placed at specific locations on the body to deeply warm energy channels and muscle tissue.  The stones have their own energetic system, which works to sedate our nervous system, providing a balancing and nourishing experience like no other.
Palm sized heated stones are simultaneously used to glide over congested muscle tissues allowing  them to release and soften .  A full body massage with lavender infused body butter completes the heavenly experience.  A Healing Stone Massage is the perfect way to warm away the chilly frost this holiday season. Tis the Season to be STRESSED!

This holiday season may be the most stressful yet.  The addition of continued bad economic news on top of the usual stressors: family gatherings, office parties, out-of-town visitors, frantic shopping spress, traffic and unpredictable weather conditions, can result in immense stress.

Acupuncture, most well known for relieving pain, is also very effective in the reduction of stress.  Especially now, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, where the Winter season is calling for rest and energy conservation in order to revitalize body and spirit.  Your Holiday agenda may have other plans for your health and well-being.

Energy (Qi) flow is often disrupted by our emotions.  Stress, frustration, anxiety and irritability can stagnate Qi, which may lead to a weakened immune system, sleep disturbances, digestive disorders, headaches, menstrual irregularities and pain.  Over time and without proper attention it can eventually lead to more serious conditions or illnesses.

Frequent Acupuncture treatments can not only smooth out the flow of Qi, but can encourage the body to create more, which will ward off any illnesses or stress-related symptoms, plus it feels good.

Relax this holiday season.  Try a combination of therapies to quell the pressures of modern life.  Acupuncture, massage, yoga and Tai Chi/Qi Gong are a few ways you can enjoy all of the wonderful things Winter has in store for you.

Help yourself and others around you to de-stress by serving dishes containing cauliflower (and other cruciferous vegetables), salmon and blackberries.  These foods rich in B Vitamins, especially B5 and B12, Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin C, Calcium and Magnesium are powerful stress remedies.

TIPS FOR
 STAYING HEALTHY
THIS WINTER:

1.  Get plenty of sleep!  Follow the sun.  Go to bed earlier and sleep later.

2.  Reduce stress in order to keep your immune system strong.

3.  Wash your hands (or use Eminence's new organic hand sanitizer, Click HERE for more info)  Being indoors more and in closer contact with others, makes it even more important to wash away the germs.

4.  Seasonal Acupuncture treatments, just four times a year, increase and circulate blood and energy while harmonizing organ systems.  Rebalancing your body's Qi can strengthen your defenses in order to ward off viruses and disease.

5.  Cover the back of your neck with a scarf, just like Grandma used to say.  The Chinese believe that is where "evil pathogens" invade us, causing the common cold & flu.

Holiday Detox with Figs ...
The Holiday season is filled with parties, family gathering, travel, stress and overeating.  These events can lead to an accumulation of toxins that affect us physically.  The signs can be constipation, poor digestion and an overall heavy sensation in the body.  Emotional toxicity is seen by increased irritability, insecurity and poor concentration.

Some foods that combat these symptoms include: figs, lemons, bananas, sweet potatoes, tofu, swiss chard, radishes & turnips.cheese platter

Fig-Sesame Jam:
1 cup sugar
¾ cup water
2 lb. firm ripe fresh figs, trimmed and quartered
2 (3" X 1") strips fresh lemon zest
2 tbsp.  fresh lemon juice
¼ cup sesame seeds, toasted

Simmer sugar  and water in a saucepan , stirring until sugar is dissolved.  Gently stir in figs, zest and lemon juice.  Simmer, uncovered until  thick and syrupy, about 1¾- 2 hours.  Add in toasted sesame seeds.

With breakfast, spread it on whole-grain toast or mix into plain yogurt.  For lunch, serve it with manchego cheese.  For dinner, try it as an accompaniment to pork.
