Health Care Reform: Delayed Compliance Date
Yesterday the DOL released guidance regarding the Summary of Benefits & Coverage provision. The previously proposed compliance deadline for health plans and insurers to begin providing the summary of benefits and coverage was March 23, 2012.
The latest guidance (issued as a FAQ) extends the deadline until after the DOL releases its final regulations. It also says " until final regulations are issued and applicable, plans and issuers are not required to comply with PHS Act section 2715."
Though there is no new deadline or release date provided, the DOL assures that when issued, health plans and insurance issuers will have "sufficient time to comply."
