Fantastic snow in Crested Butte, home of Coburn's mountain office. Mother Nature has blessed the mountain with 189 inches this season, making for some incredible skiing (get the latest snow report here).

Boulder Element
Coburn was recently selected to be the architect of Boulder Element, a revolutionary fitness concept in Boulder. Combining a state of the art fitness center along side specialty retail shops, sport medicine facilities, yoga facilities and even an events center! Boulder Element will provide a completely integrated athletic experience for everyone from the enthusiast to the professional athlete. It will include indoor cycling facilities, training areas, multiple indoor pools (including a 50-meter competition center), exterior pools, running loops and a cyclo-cross track.

Whittier Renovation
It's been nice to work in Whittier, the Boulder neighborhood where Coburn began. Coburn's construction group recently assisted in a sensitive renovation to a classic house, transforming the look and feel. Opening up the house to the south provides abundant light, allowing for passive solar for supplemental heating. The new gracious front porch provides a better connection to the outdoors, increasing living space. Solving the challenges of an older home is always fun for us. We are thrilled with the positive feedback we've received from neighbors, including potential new work! |
On the Boards: Denver Duplex
Coburn is exited to announce our fifth project in Denver in five years with Titus Development. This custom duplex for a Denver couple was conceived to carefully match their specific needs, while contributing to the growing movement towards modern design in the surrounding Highlands neighborhood. Construction start is slated for Q1 2011. Titus Development's design-build approach has meshed well with Coburn's design philosophy, and our collaboration has yielded a variety of successful projects. |

Local Companies Shine in Fresh Spaces
Coburn recently provided design and construction tenant finish services for Carob Investments. We welcome this private investment group as our new neighbor here in the Steel Yards. The new build out boasts custom millwork, radius walls and new exterior glass to take in the wonderful Flatiron views.
For Trada, an innovative internet marketing venture taking up residence in the Daily Camera building on Pearl Street, Coburn headed up the tenant finish work with design and construction services. It was rewarding to transform what was formerly the printing press area into a hip office space. The project approach was to apply economical adaptive reuse principals in order to create a "warehouse" feel. Mission accomplished and a great addition to Boulder's downtown office inventory.

New Home in Hidden River Ranch
Coburn designed this home on the East River of Hidden River Ranch, just outside of Crested Butte. A rich palette of rustic materials was used to accentuate th e feeling that the house was built over time as a series of smaller buildings, also allowing the house to form outdoor spaces which take advantage of incredible views and natural surroundings. Spaces include an outdoor fireplace and ample porches, which face the river and frame majestic views to Mt. Crested Butte and Teocalli Mountain. Hand hewn beams salvaged from barns in the Midwest are used to construct the porches, and carried inside the building as well. |

Work We Admire New York's Historical Storefronts
With the holidays under our belts, we'd like to share this article on some of New York City's store fronts. The city's stores are some of the most intriguing, interesting and beautiful displays of historical architecture.
Check it out.
