The Moreschis Solve the Homebuying Puzzle
For Anthony and Melissa Moreschi, all of the puzzle pieces involved in buying a home finally came together in the right way at the right time. They had been thinking about purchasing a home for their family of four for several years, and they were doing what they could to prepare to take this important step. The final piece of the puzzle was the Portland Housing Center.
After the Moreschis heard about the Portland Housing Center from a friend, they decided to take the HomeBuying 101 class. The information that they were given in the class gave them the confidence to buy a house.
They trusted the Portland Housing Center to help them think through the difficult issues and figure out how much they could afford to spend. Because the Portland Housing Center is a nonprofit organization that promotes responsible home ownership, the Moreschis felt that there was no hidden agenda. The Portland Housing Center wanted what was best for them and would help them find the right programs to help them achieve their goal.
The Moreschis were able to take advantage of the Oregon Bond program that they learned about through the Portland Housing Center. They also received the $8,000 Federal Tax Credit for first time homebuyers that was part of the nation's economic stimulus effort. These programs were important pieces of the puzzle!
Throughout the house-hunting process, the staff at Portland Housing Center was available to answer questions. "If they didn't have the answer, they would find out for us," says Melissa. "That was very helpful."
With a lot of patience and good teamwork, the Moreschis found a great house with a nice big yard for the kids to play in and lots of room for Melissa's garden. They have very much enjoyed meeting their neighbors and getting to know their new community.
Anthony and Melissa definitely recommend the Portland Housing Center to anyone who is thinking about purchasing a house. They also offer a few other words of advice, "Figure out where the water main shutoff valve is for your house. If it is your first house, you will flood something!"
