| | LWVMA President Eva Valentine |
I would like to express my deep appreciation to all of you who came and participated at convention. Your selfless dedication to our mission and future is an inspiration. I would also like to recognize and congratulate our Past Interim President Marcia Hirshberg and her team, Pam Holland and Wendy Manz from the LWVMA Board, for their planning and executing a very successful convention. Thanks to them and their committee, we all had a very engaging event at a beautiful location while maintaining cost considerations - not an easy task. Also, please join me in recognition and appreciation for the hard work and diligence of our Office Manager Natalie Kassabian. This was her first convention, and she was as cool, calm and collected as can be as she made sure that all materials and resources for members and presenters were ready and complete.
If you missed this year's convention please review the very important information of the Strategic Plan. This brings me to express my deep gratitude for all the work that Terry Yoffie and her team, Anne Borg, Karen Price, Carin Kale and so many others accomplished - no small feat. If you haven't seen the Strategic Plan, I urge you to review it and see where you can make a contribution, as it will be our "road map" for the next few years.
We also developed seven (7) resolutions of which three (3) passed regarding the controversial television ad that ran for two weeks. I am taking these resolutions and will be presenting them to LWVUS Board of Directors at council this month along with copies of every published article, editorial and letter generated by these ads.
Judy Davis from the LWVUS was also in attendance. I want to thank her for taking the time to make herself available to listen to our concerns, and she offered explanations as to the rational of the ads. She also spoke on the subject of non-partisanship.
The LWVMA adopted revisions to the bylaws recommended by the Governance Committee, chaired by Director Marlene O'Brien. Be sure to look for those changes posted on www.lwvma.org or click here.
I am truly honored to serve as your president and I believe that the League's values of non-partisanship, accountability, transparency and respect for process and consensus must be reflected in all that we do. I look forward to our future with great confidence that this will be a very productive and dynamic time for the LWVMA!
In League,
