What should I include in my remodel? This question has been asked since the beginning of home building. From the stone age when a kitchen consisted of just adding a piece of stone (maybe even granite) for hitting things against, until today when your remodel may include a built-in, state-of-the-art wine cooler and coffee service.
The key to getting a much more satisfying kitchen after your remodel is to clearly define what your kitchen remodel should accomplish.
- Are you looking for more space, more order, more aesthetics?
- Do you cook a lot or eat out a lot?
- Are you wanting to entertain?
- Do you need more storage space in a very limited room size?
Sometimes the easiest way to approach your new kitchen is to create a list of the things you dislike about your existing kitchen and then let a professional kitchen planner work their magic. If you approach your kitchen remodel with the idea that you are just going to replace the current cabinets and appliances with new ones, you really limit the benefits of your kitchen remodel. Your current kitchen was built when half of the appliances you are going to add were not an option, so their existing placement in your current kitchen no longer makes sense. Sure you may have to move a water line or change out some plumbing or electrical, but in the long run, that cost is relatively small to the much greater satisfaction you will have using that kitchen every day.
