Wormy Spaghetti The Twits by Roald Dahl "The next day, to pay Mr Twit back for the frog trick, Mrs Twit sneaked out into the garden and dug up some worms. She chose the big long ones and put them in a tin and carried the tin back to the house under her apron. At one o' clock, she cooked spaghetti for lunch and she mixed the worms in with the spaghetti, but only on her husband's plate. The worms didn't show because everything was covered with tomato sauce and sprinkled with cheese"
Yuck!
Have you ever played a trick on a friend or someone in your family? Maybe it was an April fool's Day joke? What did you do? What was their reaction? If you haven't, imagine what kind of trick you would like to play, or draw a picture to show your trick. |
Revolting Rhymes & Recipes Competition
Win tickets to see the new Disney movie 'Fantastic Mr Fox'
Write your own 'Revolting Rhyme' Have you read George's Marvellous Medicine? You can have lots of fun making up scrumdiddlyumptious recipes. But remember recipes such as the one George makes for his grandma are only PRETEND! What might you put in a nasty mixture? Write your list as a rhyme or you may like to draw your ideas. Revolting Recipes Unlike George's medicine, the recipes in Revolting Recipes actually can be made and eaten. Snozzcumbers sound particularly tempting. Perhaps you could make one with your mum or dad at home.
Write a menu with all the different awful recipes, do a restaurant review of the finished 'dishes' or just write up the original recipe ideas as a poster. WARNING: Just remember to take care that nothing nasty gets eaten!
The competition closing date is 30 September.

Brain Food
Fun Facts!
Rold Dahl was fascinated by facts - and he loved collecting them. Here are three amazing true facts that you may not know. 1. Saffron is the world's most expensive food when sold by weight. It's made from the stigmas of pink crocus. 2. Some of the greatest chocolate bars in the world were invented between 1930 and 1937. Aero, Crunchie, Maltesers, Mars bars and Smarties all date back to this time. 3. Composer Ludwig van Beethoven created some of his best work when he was deaf. Beethoven was Roald Dahl's favourite composer.

The Barbarous Brigands of Frostbite pass by Charlie Small Prepare to be utterly amazed by the latest instalment of Charlie Small's incredible yet 100 per cent true adventures. At the end of his fifth journal, Charlie Small rocketed out of the strange and dark Underworld and over desert sands and a snowy white mountain range. With a table cloth over his head and a cushion strapped round his bottom, Charlie parachuted right into the middle of a small, swampy island. Clutching a mainly blank map that's supposed to help him find the infamous Jakeman, he sets off for the next island, only to find himself face to face with a slimy, stinking, roaring swamp monster ...Will Charlie manage to slip through its gloopy claws? Can he figure out Jakeman's map and finally find out how to get home? And what are these rumours we've heard of a terrible tribe of weird warriors and a mysterious hairy traveller from the North? Only by reading Charlie's sixth journal will you find out ... Rodrick Rules: Diaty of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney It's a brand-new year and a brand-new journal and Greg is keen to put the humiliating (and secret!) events of last summer firmly behind him. But someone knows everything - someone whose job it is to most definitely not keep anything embarrassing of Greg's private - his big brother, Rodrick. How can Greg make it through this new school year with his cool(ish) reputation intact? |
