Team Read 2008

This summer 3029 of you joined the 2008 Summer Reading Challenge 'Team Read' at Tower Hamlets Idea Stores and Libraries.

The fantastic children of Tower Hamlets collected 1,930 gold medals after reading over 17,000 books all borrowed from Idea Stores and libraries; that's as many books as are in the children's library at Idea Store Whitechapel. The Idea Store team coached you every step of the way to help you to the goal of reading 6 books with help from the stickers and incentives offered.

Which schools had the most children join the Team Read?
· Gold goes to Bluegate Fields with 219 children
· Silver goes to Bigland Green with 190 children
· Bronze goes to Cubitt Town Primary with 145 children

The Summer Reading Challenge isn't just about getting you reading though. It is also about helping you to find out more about books, find books that interest you and spend time reading with your family. Which is why 100s of you attended some of the free activities that took place over the summer as well as taking part in the challenge.

Let us know which activities you enjoyed and which ones you wouldn't come to again.
Did you read something good over the summer?
Tell us what it was and why it was fantastic and we can share it with everyone so they can read it too. You can tell us if you read something terrible too.

Coming out on the 6th October is 'The trouble with Dragons' by Debi Gliori which looks at the ecological problems facing the earth. 'Respect the earth and cherish the land. Recycle, reuse and reduce your demand'
But it's not people ruining the earth, it is the dragons that start spreading all over the place, and their houses and roads use up all the space, they seem to make a terrible mess of everything. But is it too late!

Do you like the Gruffalo with his terrible claws and purple spots all over his back? If you do Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler the team behind the Gruffalo have created a fantastic new book called 'Stick Man' so this is one to look out for in October.
Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their three stick children. But it's dangerous being a Stick Man. A dog wants to play with him, a swan builds her nest with him. He even ends up on a fire! Join Stick Man on his troublesome journey back to the family tree. A great book to share with the rest of your family.
