One more month of FLOW!

As we near the end of our FLOW Mentoring sessions for the year, we want to extend our unending gratitude to each and every FLOW Mentor and Site Leader. We will be honoring our FLOW family at our Mentor and Site Leader Appreciation on Thursday, May 12th, and hope to see everyone there.  Please see Upcoming Events for details.

For now, we wish each mentor/mentee pair a joyous spring and a happy last month of meetings until next year!

2011 FLOW T-Shirts

Our 2010-11 FLOW t-shirt contest has concluded, and our t-shirts have arrived! Thanks to a generous donation made to us this winter by the Silent Angel Memorial Foundation, we were able to provide a FLOW t-shirt to every mentor, mentee, and site leader. Look for them around town!

Town Creek FLOW Shares Talents

This year many of our elementary FLOW programs did an activity we called "Sharing Talents". In this activity, each mentor/mentee pair identified something that the mentee is particularly good at and enjoys doing. They then worked together to create a plan for presenting this skill or activity to the rest of the group, the idea being that the mentee would have a chance to "teach" the rest of the group. This was a wonderful way for mentees to showcase who they are as well as gain some practice in presenting. Below are a few pictures of the Town Creek Elementary FLOW program sharing their talents!

K-9 Officers Visit Esperanza and Leonardtown Middle!

In late March Sgt. Edward Evans and his colleagues, who serve as K-9 Officers with the St. Mary's County Sherriff Office, very generously took time out of their schedules to visit the Esperanza and Leonardtown Middle School FLOW Mentoring Programs.

After a PowerPoint presentation that gave the students background information on how police dogs are trained and utilized, the officers took the group outside and gave them a live demonstration with the dogs. They showed them how the dogs follow commands, including tracking and retrieving crime-related evidence and attacking dangerous suspects. Needless to say, the presentations were exciting as well as informative for our mentees, and we are extremely thankful to Sgt. Evans for sharing his work with our FLOW programs.
