Call to Action - Proposal Makes Businesses Tax Collectors and Forces Small Biz to Make Interest-Free Loans to State
Cal Chamber
California continues to have a severe budget crisis - $20 billion in the hole. Unfortunately, one of the solutions being proposed in Sacramento is yet another budget gimmick - an onerous 3% independent contractor withholding mandate on businesses and public agencies.

Any business/agency hiring an independent contractor (anyone who receives a 1099-MISC) will have to be reduce every payment by 3%, and is responsible for remitting that money to the Franchise Tax Board, the state tax collection agency.
Some Residents of Vallejo 'Gun Shy' About Proposed Solano County Fairgrounds
Development Plan
By Jessica A. York - Vallejo Times-Herald
A "gun shy" Vallejo community took a critical look at a modified development partnership proposal for the Solano County Fairgrounds on Tuesday night, while pro-business agencies cheered it on.

Vallejo City Councilwoman Erin Hannigan said the city has seen proposed projects fail, and cannot be blamed for concerns about the joint city-Solano County Board of Supervisors project. Hannigan stressed that the development, including retail aspects, is needed.

Note from Anita Hawkes, President and CEO

We went to council a few weeks ago and I as well as many members spoke on behalf of the local bidder preference. The City Council passed the first reading making a 5% bidder preference for established vendors within city limits; very good news for our local businesses.  Last week we spoke in favor of the Project Vision for the Solano County Fairgrounds. The Solano County supervisors and the City of Vallejo have endorsed this vision. This was an important first step for the Solano County Fairgrounds Project.

The City Council Special Meeting is tonight at the Mare Island Marketing Center from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. I will be attending along with many of the Vallejo Chamber Board of Directors. This is an opportunity to have a voice in Vallejo's future. Please attend if you can. I look forward to seeing you there.

We value your continued connection to the Chamber.

Warm Regards,
