Dear Oenophile,
Remember the "Miracle on Ice"? In the 1980 Olympics, the
USA men's hockey team upset the Russian team completely unexpectedly, as
the Russians were widely considered the greatest team in the world by a
wide margin, and then went on for a gold medal. Here comes the
metaphor. For years, I had Waterstone Cabernet Sauvignon as
my "no-brainer, screaming bargain, under-$20" Napa Cab that CRUSHED
all the competition, hands down. I put it on a very high pedestal. I
never really expected another.
Today, the champion has been felled.
Enter Tuck Beckstoffer.
Beckstoffer...hm, I've heard
that somewhere...many of you know Beckstoffer as synonymous with some of
Napa Valleys most legendary and highly regarded vineyards. Tuck, son of
Andy Beckstoffer, very quietly started making wines a few years ago with
one incredible guy by the name of Ken
Juhasz. Yup, of Auteur fame.
Getting the picture? There's so many reasons to buy cases of this wine,
I think I need to summarize them succinctly rather than filling up this
page with more rambling.
- A small-production,
proprietary red wine that blows away the competition in its price
range
- We only have 30 cases to
sell and will sell out today.
- Well under
$20! JUST $239 A CASE!
I mean, c'mon.
It's perfect!
- Ken Juhasz, artisan
winemaker and owner of Auteur, the awesome pinot and chard
powerhouse, making the wines
- Tuck Beckstoffer and his
impeccable, diverse and greatly-in-demand vineyards. 75%
Cabernet, 15% Syrah, 10% Petite Sirah
- Small production...this
wine is unlikely to be found outside of a few CA retailers
(like us!)
- From the excellent 2007
vintage, CA appellation but 98% Napa fruit.
- IN STOCK IN ONE WEEK,
ready to ship ground for $9.00 a case!
- Did I mention under
$20?
- Hugely approachable,
friendly, deep, complex, bright, and spicy
2007 THE SUM
$18.95!
$227 A CASE! best price
in the country....Will sell out
today, please let us know...
When Tuck came by the warehouse a few weeks ago to discuss this project
(his office is down the road by Dean+Deluca) we were stunned by all the
killer stuff he has in the pipeline. THE SUM represents a blend
of various parts that work harmoniously together and he priced it to
bring joy to the face of just about anyone. My tasting notes:
"Big nose. Cherries, black cherries, sandalwood, plums, even sweet
peaches?, spearmint, baking spice. Palate is round, soft, balanced, long
with a touch of oak kick. Young, drinks great now, better in a
year....killer price...
Don't miss this incredible deal
while it lasts!! Cheers -- Stefan
