Dear ,
HESSCO Elder Services, which serves Canton, Dedham, Foxboro, Medfield, Millis, Norfolk, Norwood, Plainville, Sharon, Walpole, Westwood and Wrentham serves over 150,000 meals through our Nutrition Program each year. The Governor's recent budget cuts $1.5 million in support from the Nutrition Program for Fiscal Year 2013. This 24% cut would greatly impact HESSCO's ability to meet the need for home delivered and congregate meals served across our service area. HESSCO Elder Services is working with legislators and other elder advocates to fight Governor Patrick's proposed $1.5 million cut to the elder nutrition program. As part of our March for Meals efforts, elected town officials, town administrators and legislators will be delivering meals throughout the month. This effort affords us the opportunity to provide a first hand experience and advocate for their support of the program. We will continue to work to advocate with the legislature to return the $1.5 million to the nutrition program. Other areas of advocacy will be the protective service program, home care services and the SHINE program. Sincerely,
Mary Jean McDermott Executive Director HESSCO Elder Services |
