2012 World Habitat Day
| | |
We are pleased to invite you to
Farmville Area
Habitat for Humanity's
2012 World Habitat Day Forum
Monday, October 1st
SCOPE Building
505 Griffin Blvd; Farmville
This forum entitled, "Many Homes, One Community: The State of Housing in Southside Virginia", is taking place in recognition of an annual grassroots initiative, World Habitat Day, that focuses on the need to address decent housing around the world, including in Prince Edward, Buckingham, Charlotte, and Cumberland Counties. In 1985, the United Nations declared the first Monday in October to be World Habitat Day to recognize the vast housing need around the world. World Habitat Day is a special opportunity for Habitat for Humanity affiliates nationwide to call on individuals and organizations to help us address poverty housing and create housing solutions with families in urgent need of them. On this year's World Habitat Day, we will honor our theme of "Many Homes, One Community" to highlight the vital role that decent, affordable housing plays in community stabilization and development and to focus on the importance of homeownership in a neighborhood's progress. We would be delighted if you could join us to address the participants about the housing crisis in our community.

| Annual Community Casual Day | | |
The United Way of Prince Edward County, Inc is sponsoring a "Community Casual Day" fundraiser and you're invited to participate.
We're encouraging local employers to allow each of their employees to donate $5 to the United Way of Prince Edward County in exchange for being allowed to wear jeans to work on September 28, 2012.
Join us in showing off your community spirit. Businesses all over town will be sporting their "Community Casual" attire that day.
The United Way of Prince Edward County, Inc is an all volunteer organization dedicated to the support of local non-profit community and human service programs. We receive no funding from the national United Way campaign and all contributions received are used to benefit programs right here in our home community.
We currently support programs that meet a wide range of needs of the citizens in and around Prince Edward County including (just to name a few) providing nutrition to our elderly; teaching team work and physical education to our youth through sports, scouting and 4-H opportunities; providing safe haven to victims of domestic violence and much, much more. Ask us for a full list of currently funded programs.
When collected, your donations may be mailed to UWPEC, Inc at PO Box 122, Farmville, VA 23901 or if you'd like, contact any UWPEC board member for pick up and a photo op.
Those already permitted to wear jeans to work may wish to participate by wearing a UWPEC sticker that we will provide. Contact Rhonda @ 434-392-7633 for details.
