Time is running out! Register today to promote your business at the 2nd Annual Southern Virginia Business Expo, hosted by Longwood University SBDC!
Over 200 business owners and managers attended the Inaugural event in 2011. This year's expo, to be held September 26 in Farmville, Virginia, will again feature an exhibit hall with expanded networking time. HAND-BUILDING - All skill Levels
Students will focus on basic hand-building techniques including slab construction and coils to create a variety of functional and sculptural objects.
Cost: $220 - clay, glaze, and firing provided
- $20.00 - one-time fee for beginner tool kit
- 8 sessions meet once a week for 2 hours
- Includes unlimited open studio
TUESDAY
10 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.
September 11-October 30
GROUP POTTERY WHEEL - Beginning Wheel
Over the course of 8 weeks, beginning potters will learn the basics of wheel-throwing, centering, simple trimming and glazing. Discussion covers clay fundamentals and design.
Cost: $220 - clay, glaze, and firing provided
- $20 - one-time fee for beginner tool kit
- 8 sessions meet once a week for 2½ hours
- Includes unlimited open studio
TUESDAY
6 - 8:30 P.M. - September 11-October 30
GROUP POTTERY WHEEL - Throwing Further
This class builds upon skills learned in Beginning Wheel and is for those with some previous experience. We will focus on student goals and projects as well as trying new techniques.
Cost: $220 - clay, glaze, and firing provided
- 8 sessions meet once a week for 2½ hours
- Includes unlimited open studio
WEDNESDAY

The deadline to register for Leadership Farmville 2012-2013 is August 24. If you are interested in this beneficial program sponsored by the Chamber, please take time to register. 4 pm - Crafty Campers:
Get crafty at the Nature Nook where we'll learn a few great facts about nature and make a neat, featured craft you can take home. What will it be today? Bird Feeders? Your very own compass? How about some sunshine magic? Stop in and find out. We've got the glitter and the glue, all we're missing is YOU!! Fee: $2 per person; $6 per family.
6 pm - Family Game Night:
Bring the whole family for our Family Game Night. Enjoy board games, card games, puzzles and more.
8 pm - Make New Friends Campfire:
What's a park ranger's favorite snack? You guessed it, S'MORES!!!! Come make some new friends at the park, sing some songs, hear a few great stories and enjoy some yummy s'mores.
Saturday Augus11th, 2012
11 am - Story Hike:
Time to get the whole family together and hit the trails for the latest way to combine a love of reading with the great outdoors. At this fun new activity you literally get to hike through a story, finding a new page the further you walk, exercising your legs and your minds.
1 pm - Here, Fishy, Fishy, Fishy:
There are many different fish species in the park with lots of unique qualities. Lets discover them together. Join us as we cast an imaginary line and catch some fun facts about our local fish!
2 pm - Creature Feature:
Here at Twin Lakes we get to see all kinds of different wildlife, from snakes to squirrels and beavers to butterflies. Come learn about one of our park's many amazing creatures in today's Creature Feature.
3 pm - Gone to the Dogs:
Twin Lakes is letting the dogs out. Bring the pups out for a fun and educational hike around the lake. Dogs must be on leashes and PLEASE only pups who play well with other pups."Mut Mits" and doggy treats will be provided.
4 pm - Lake Explorers:
Join us as we go out and dip our nets in the water along the shore to see what creatures we can find!
8:30pm - Evening Canoe Float:
Join us on the lake for our evening canoe float as we discover the beauty of nature at night. Meet at the Prince Edward Boat Ramp. Spaces are limited, call our Main Office to reserve your spot today. Fee for the program is $6 per person, $5 per person for groups of 4 or more.
Sunday August 12th
2 pm - Guided Beaver Hike:
Join us for a guided Beaver Hike along our newly renovated Otter's Path Trail.
4 pm - Geocaching 101:
Using multi-billion dollar satellites to find Tupperware in the woods. This new way to treasure hunt will be loads of fun for the whole family. Come learn how it's done. $3 per person, $8 per family.

Ever wonder what actually goes on at the Moton Museum? What do they do? When will it be finished?
Find out this Friday.
Bring your lunch to the museum and join us for our Brown Bag Lunch Series, Friday, August 10th from 12noon to 1pm. This Friday's program: "The Making of a Civil Rights Museum." Moton Museum Director Lacy Ward, Jr. and Associate Director Justin Reid discuss the vision of the Moton Museum, its role in classrooms and in the community, and the final phase of museum construction set to begin this fall. Conceptual drawing of Gallery IV planned for the Robert Russa Moton Museum.
