ROCK THE BLOCK 2012
Greetings from Longwood!

I am writing from the University to extend an
invitation to your business to participate in
Rock the Block 2012!  This initiative is an
opportunity to bring Longwood faculty, staff
and students together for an evening of fun
while creating stronger relationships with
town and local businesses.  Each year since
2009 this event has been a huge success!

Rock The Block 2012 will be held on Friday,
September 14, 2012 from 5:30pm-9pm in the
Longwood Landings at MidTown Square complex.
The Town of Farmville is graciously supporting
this event as we close portions of Main and
South Streets to offer new festival style food
options, live music by Snackbar Jones and
Jesse Chong and the Chong Band, bigger and
better novelty items, prizes and much more!

In addition to these attractions, we will be
hosting a Local Business and Organization
Showcase from 5:30-8:00pm in the Landings
complex, however, you are welcome to keep
your displays open until the event ends at 9pm.
This will be an opportunity for you to display merchandise and information, offer coupons
and discounts, and provide samples and
giveaways.  Students are constantly reporting
that they aren't sure where to shop and buy
gifts, get their car washed and serviced or take
their families out to dinner so this is your
opportunity to provide  some answers!  This
event is also open to the local community!

We are also looking for donations for raffles throughout the event!  If you are willing to
donate meals, gift certificates or merchandise,
please let us know using the link below.  These
will be a part of our MainStage announcements
so your business would receive significant
publicity!

Longwood will provide access to a loading area,
one table, two chairs and small signage
denoting your table at no charge.  If your
business or organization  is interested in
participating, please click the link below and
complete the form no later than
Friday, August 31st.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact Sarah Whitley at 434.395.2414 or
rocktheblock@longwood.edu.  Once we confirm your reservation, you will receive additional information regarding loading areas and event logistics.
We anticipate this event being even larger than last year so don't miss your opportunity to participate.  Let's Rock The Block 2012!

Sincerely,
Sarah E. Whitley

High Bridge Opening
The Virginia Dept. of Conservation & Recreation invites the public to join local, state and federal officials as we celebrate the Grand-Opening of High Bridge on Tuesday, June 26th at 10a. This magnificent and historic, nearly half-mile long, bridge is the centerpiece of the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park.

After a brief ceremony and ribbon cutting, plan to spend some time on the bridge and trail. Refreshments will be provided.  Learn more about the bridge and other local attractions while listening to the bluegrass sounds of local band High Bridge. The U. S. Postal Service will be on hand with a special High Bridge commemorative stamp cancellation.

This is an outdoor activity so dress casually and wear comfortable shoes.

Guests are encouraged to use the special shuttle service at the parking area to and from the ceremony site.  Shuttle buses will begin running at 9a and the final shuttle before the ceremony will leave the parking area at 9:45a. Shuttles will resume after the ceremony at approximately 11:30a and ending at 1p.

All other access lots will be available for those walking or bicycling to the bridge. Carpooling is encouraged.
