This is an outdoor activity so dress casually and wear comfortable shoes.

Shuttles will resume after the ceremony at approximately 11:30a and ending at 1p.

Open to people that have helped us make this dream a reality,

and welcome people to have a quick try of one of the courses

to get a feel for what its like.

We cannot accommodate too many people,

but not everyone will want to get up in the trees.

The Adventure Park at Sandy River Retreat
We proudly announce that Sandy River Outdoor Adventure, LLC is opening "The Adventure Park at Sandy River Retreat" on June 15th 2012. The park is located near the Sandy River Reservoir in Prince Edward County, Virginia.
This tree-top adventure park is the largest and the first of it's kind in the state of Virginia. Participants independently traverse obstacles suspended between trees. There are 47 obstacles including 11 zip lines, separated into four different courses/trails, similar to those found on a ski mountain. Yellow, the easiest is less than 12 feet off the ground and is suitable for ages 7-9; green is up to 20 feet off the ground and is suitable for ages 10 and up; blue is up to 28 feet off the ground and finally black diamond, 36 feet off the ground and is suitable for ages 15 and up, and has complicated obstacles that require extra courage and stamina. Each trail consists of elements like rope bridges, logs, cargo nets, swings, ladders, and zip lines. The arrangement of these encourages many basic forms of movement such as climbing, hand over hand, balancing, holding, slipping, sliding, crawling, and zipping! Typically ropes courses are used for team building activities and for personal development challenges while one enjoys the outdoors. Sandy River Outdoor Adventure Park combines these concepts in a forest setting, taking advantage of the shade and beauty of the trees and surrounding nature.
Safety is of the highest priority; trained staff provide fitted harnesses and an instruction session before participants start the course. Participants are provided with a new state-of-the-art, safe permanent belay system that attaches to a life-line with two carabiners that cannot be simultaneously opened; this eliminates the ability to completely unlock from the life-line.
Participants can act individually, try and fail and try again, overcome their fears and build self confidence, all with little to no risk, with this safe smart belay (SSB) system. This outdoor recreation facility offers a great outdoor activity with physical and mental challenges to "learn through play".
The Adventure Park is located next to Sandy River Retreat, Log Cabin Farm Stay. The park is surrounded by a walking trail, for use by participants and guests at Sandy River Retreat. Beverages and light snacks are available for purchase at the registration area, and there are picnic tables and benches throughout the park. The adventure park is open 7 days a week from 8:30am -5:00pm during the summer(June 20-Sept 22), and weekends and holidays during spring and fall. The park also offers packages for churches, clubs, team building groups and birthday parties. Participants will have 3 hours to use the courses. Advanced online reservations are recommended as space is limited.
We look forward to seeing you out in the trees.
