Stars Under The Stars 

The 15th Anniversary season kicks off on June 8 with Rock Hudson and Doris Day in the 1959 romantic comedy, Pillow Talk (Not Rated).  

 

Major sponsors for this year's film series include Central Virginia Regional Library, Putney Mechanical, Caryn's Bridals, Real Living Cornerstone, and Sweet Frog. Donations provided by Lib's Place and Pepsi. Special thanks to the Farmville Herald and the Town of Farmville.

 

Come join the fun at the Downtown Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main & Fourth Streets.  Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the court house.  Please note there is a NO PETS policy.

 

Admission is free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for sale.  In the event of rain, films will be shown the following evening. Programs begin at dusk, so be sure to bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the show!

2 pm - Canoeing 101:  

Lets start with the basics. Learn the in's and out's of canoeing and enjoy a splashing good time on the lake. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned paddler, you will love this fun packed family program.  Fee for the program is $5 per person, $4 per person for groups of 4+.

6 pm - Family Game Night:  

Bring the whole family for our Family Game Night. Enjoy board games, card games, puzzles and more. Meet at Shelter 2.

8 pm - Make New Friends Campfire:  

What's a park ranger's favorite snack? You guessed it, S'MORES!!!! Come make some new friends at the park, sing some songs, hear a few great stories and enjoy some yummy s'mores. Meet at the campfire behind Shelter 1.

10 am - Buggin' Out:  

Do you know what a Monarch Butterfly looks like when its still a caterpillar? Or how many kinds of ants there are? Join us as we bug around the park and learn about some crazy critters.

1 pm - Art In Nature:  

As part of our National Get Outdoors Day activities, join us for a demonstration on wheel thrown ceramics with visiting artist Shauna Manovich as she talks about her connection with nature and how she uses texture in her work to reflect the inspiring world around her. 

2 pm - National Get Outdoors Day Story Hike:  

Time to get the whole family together and hit the trails for the latest way to combine a love of reading with the great outdoors. At this fun new activity, you literally get to hike through a story, finding a new page the further you walk, exercising your legs and your minds. 

6 pm - Tales & Traditions:  

Join local author, story teller, and Virginia Master Naturalist Francis Wood at the Interpretive Circle as you listen to some of his delightful stories.

11 am - Geocaching 101:  

Using multi-billion dollar satellites to find Tupperware in the woods.  This new way to treasure hunt will be loads of fun for the whole family.  Come learn how it's done.  $3 per person, $8 per family.

1 pm - Gone to the Dogs:  

Twin Lakes is letting the dogs out. Bring the pups out for a fun and educational hike around the lake. Dogs must be on leashes and PLEASE only pups who play well with other pups."Mut Mits" and doggy treats will be provided.

2 pm - Going Green Craft:  

In our new Going Green Programs we create things using 100% recycled materials. Today we will be making bird feeders from recycled soda bottles. Join us and take home a feeder that you crafted with your own two hands. Fee for the program is $2 per person, $6 per family.

4 pm - Creature Feature:
Here at Twin Lakes we get to see all kinds of different wildlife, from snakes to squirrels and beavers to butterflies. Come learn about one of our park's many amazing creatures in today's Creature Feature.

 

PLUS! Mark your calenders for our Father's Day Fishing Tournament! June 17, 2012 from 10 am to 12 pm. Awards will be given out to the tournament's top anglers. So Dads, grab the kids and the fishing poles, and lets hit the lake. Participants must have a valid VA Fishing License. To register call our Main Office at 434-392-3435.
