City planners now love plan for 47 storey building they rejected at 39 storeys
City planners rejected the proposed tower at 323-333 King Street West when it was supposed to be 39 storeys, with 201 condo units. So the developer bought an adjacent property and redrew the tower at 47 storeys with 304 condo units. Now the city planners are in favour of it. A staff report suggesting that city council approve the tower comes to Toronto and East York Community Council Wednesday morning. Click here for the full article |

How much do you think you'll get back for that reno?
Ah, the sweet sounds of summer: hammering, sawing, digging, demolition. Well, they're not sweet exactly, but certainly familiar to anyone who lives in one of Canada's larger cities.
With real estate prices in a state of flux, it seems everyone is eager to spruce up what they've got and hopefully be rewarded with an increase in property value. However, as we know, not all renovations are created equal. Just because you're sinking the money into your home doesn't mean you'll see a return on your investment. And just about everyone has an opinion on what you should and shouldn't be tearing out.

Gardiner Expressway billboard refusal may be sign of things to come in Liberty Village
With development booming in Liberty Village, the Gardiner Expressway is losing its status as a good place for billboards.
That was the message successfully put forward by Councillor Mike Layton, who persuaded a council committee to oppose a new Gardiner billboard.
The proposal was for a 20-metre high billboard with a static image changing every 10 seconds to be located on the north side of the expressway, about 100 metres east of Atlantic Ave.

Market News
Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 10,850 transactions through the TorontoMLS System in May 2012 - an 11 per cent increase over the 9,766 sales in May 2011. Sales growth was strongest in the '905' regions surrounding the City of Toronto.
"Sales growth in the '905' area code was stronger than growth in the City of Toronto across all major home types. While lower average prices are certainly one factor that has contributed to this trend, recent polling also suggests that the City of Toronto's land transfer tax has also prompted many households to look outside of the City for their ownership housing needs," said Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) President Richard Silver.
