Sales for July 2011 were 23% higher than July 2010 and the average price was up by almost 10%.

News of the Toronto International Film Festival means that fall is approaching, and now that the TIFF Lightbox is complete, that area is likely to be busy between September 8th and 18th.

Market chaos could help housing sector
The upside in a global stock market decline may ironically be a healthier housing market - at least in the short term, say economists.
"The housing market has nine lives. Every time interest rates are supposed to go down, something happens and it helps to keep the market going," said Benjamin Tal, senior economist at CIBC World Markets.
Interest rates were supposed to be headed up before the crisis of terrorist attacks in New York on 9/11, and the last crash in 2008. But that didn't happen. And it looks like rates will be staying down for a while, says Tal. Click here for the full article |

Toronto International Film Festival: September 8 to 18
TIFF is again set to take over part of Toronto, this time much of it centred around the now-completed TIFF Lightbox. Expect red carpets, celebrities and delays around King and John for ten days.
Filmmakers Pedro Almodóvar, George Clooney, David Cronenberg, Ralph Fiennes, William Friedkin, Ann Hui, Madonna, Steve McQueen, Nanni Moretti, Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, Lynne Ramsay, Todd Solondz, Morten Tyldum and Lars von Trier make their North American premieres in Toronto at this year's festival. Single tickets go on sale on September 3.

Niagara Wine Festival:
September 16 to 25
Enjoy more than 100 events including winery tours and tastings, concerts, Niagara cuisine, wine seminars, live entertainment and one of Canada's largest street parades during the 60th Niagara Wine Festival.
Several dozen Niagara wineries are participating, including Jackson Triggs, Inniskillin, Peller Estates and Magnotta.

Market Update
Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 7,922 transactions through the TorontoMLS® system in July 2011, representing a 23 per cent increase over July 2010.
Total sales through the first seven months of this year amounted to 55,863 - down by 1.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2010. After adjusting for seasonal fluctuations, the July figure continued to point to an annual sales result close to 90,000 - in line with results from the previous six months.
"Strong home sales continued in July, with a substantial rebound over last summer's slow-down brought about by higher mortgage rates, new lending guidelines and misconceptions about the HST. The greatest rebound was seen in the condominium apartment segment in the City of Toronto," said Toronto Real Estate Board President Richard Silver.
