Welcome to our newsletter for June 2010!

I'd like to thank everyone who bought and sold with me in 2009 - I had the most sales in M6K and M6J!

The HST is coming into effect as of July 1 - I have a link to a handy chart that shows just what will be affected by the changes.

There have been a lot of articles published recently about mortgages and mortgage rates. The Financial Post recently published an interesting article about why you may want to have an annual financial check-up, including your mortgage terms. A link to the article follows.

Maybe your mortgage needs a check-up



While about 80% of Canadians visit a doctor at least once a year to help ensure they remain physically healthy, the number of people who check their financial health by regularly reviewing their mortgage is far less.

Plenty can change in someone's life in a year, never mind during the standard five-year mortgage a lot of Canadians sign up for. A career change, kids, retirement or newfound money or it could be that such a major event is on the horizon. All can affect the type of mortgage that fits just right.

"A lot of people don't like to face up to it but, doing an annual financial check-up is a very smart thing to do," says Peter Aceto, CEO and president of Toronto-based ING Direct Canada. "Managing your financial lifestyle is just as important as managing your diet and exercise."

HST: What's Taxable and What's Not
   


There's been a lot of confusion about the HST and what it will affect. Revenue Canada has posted a helpful document to let us know what will change and what won't.

It's not mentioned in the article, but maintenance fees on residential condominiums won't be affected.

GTA REALTORS® Report Monthly Resale Housing Figures
 
TORONTO, JUNE 3, 2010 - Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 9,470 sales through the Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) in May, representing a one per cent dip from May 2009. In comparison to previous years, this was the third highest May sales result on record.
 
"The pace of transactions slowed in May following record-setting sales in February, March and April," said Toronto Real Estate Board President Tom Lebour. "Buyers who otherwise would have been purchasing a home in May moved more quickly this year, likely to get ahead of mortgage rate hikes."
