A comparison of home values across the GTA 2007-2009

Catherine Farley, Toronto Star

A warm front continues to blow across the GTA housing market, taking much of the chill out of recessionary real estate shivers of the past year.

November resale values gained an average of 13 per cent compared with a year ago, more than compensating for the 3.9 per cent median price drop in the fall of 2008, after the U.S. housing collapse shook stock markets around the world.

That 3.9 per cent is significant in a market accustomed to annual gains of 5 to 8 per cent over the past decade.

8 Things Home Buyers Look For

wnetwork.com - Glen Peloso

It seems that every weekend during the 'open house' hours from two until four I am somehow compelled to visit the various houses that find themselves on the market for sale. If the house has issues because of the way it was prepared for the market, those issues always seem to be the same. What follows is a short list of ten things that you can do to assist your sales on the market:

1. Clean the house like a very critical and nosy aunt is coming for the weekend. It has to be perfect!

2. Makes sure that you do something to have the house smell like it is a home (I like to boil a combinations of cinnamon sticks, orange peels, either ground or whole cloves and plenty of water - it smells like home baking)

3. Have some music that is appropriate to the buyer you imagine the house will attract. Jazz is always a good safe bet
