Greetings!

Welcome to our August newsletter!

Thank you for the great response to our new website! It was certainly worth the wait.

This month, I'm featuring an article on how to cut costs on a kitchen renovation, which is always a challenge. I also came across a fascinating article on how you can improve your sleep - and help the environment.

I've also got two great new listings - one at DNA and one on Massey Street - have a look!

We value your comments and welcome any ideas or requests you may have for future issues and look forward to hearing from you soon.
14 Ideas to Help You Stay on Budget with a Kitchen Reno

Kitchen reno

For great budget-friendly kitchen ideas, check out this excerpt from Joan Kohn's It's Your Kitchen book.

It's easy to spend a lot of money on a great kitchen. These budget-friendly ideas will help you get that great, stylish kitchen without breaking the bank. Spending less money on your kitchen does not mean spending less creativity or enthusiasm. In fact, choosing to solve a design issue with an affordable solution often stimulates extraordinary thinking and leads you to a brand-new vision.

1.Save money on cabinets. Cabinets are generally the single most expensive element in any kitchen design. Fortunately, there are many ways to save money:

Refinishing or replacing cabinet doors can make a huge improvement at a fraction of the cost of new cabinets.

Sleep Green, Sleep Better

Sleep

Millions of people complain about not being able to sleep or simply not feeling rested after a night of rest. While this can be attributed to everything from insomnia to restless leg syndrome, it's not as well known that it could be your environment! As Margaret Renzullo spoke of on Greenovate, she had a horrible time trying to get any rest at all in her outdated home. How exactly can the surroundings in your home be causing you not to get your much needed rest? There are many, but here is a sampling of why you may be thinking about sleep more than you are sleeping.

Poor Air Quality

Poor air quality is definitely one of the things that can be factored into not getting enough zzz's. Painting the walls with a low or no VOC paint can be a wonderful option. Another method of breathing easier in the bedroom is to use a clay plaster that produces negative ions. It's thought by some that these negative ions can increase the flow of oxygen to the brain.

Prices remained stable throughout the GTA in July. At $371,427 the average price increased slightly more than one per cent from $366,012 recorded in July 2007 and nine per cent from the $342,034 figure of two years ago.

In the City of Toronto the average price of $395,342 increased less than one per cent from the July 2007 price of $395,044 and 10 per cent from the July 2006 figure of $360,409.

"Sales declined 12 per cent last month from the best-ever July 2007 record of 8,912 but increased 10 per cent from the 7,082 sales transacted in July 2006," said Ms. O'Neill. "Comparing July 2007 with July 2006, sales increased by 26 per cent."
