Top Ten Tips Decorating Small Spaces

From hgtv.ca

Small space decorating is a hot topic these days. Condos, apartments and small homes all offer unique challenges in decorating: will everything fit, which colours should be used, and how can spaces be multi-functional and still beautiful?

1. Plan. Plan. Plan.
The first step to starting your redecorating project doesn't involve having to buy anything. If you are sharing your home with someone, the first thing you should do is have a heart-to-heart talk about each individual's priorities for the home.

2. Show convention the door
Don't go overboard trying to get the biggest sofa you can, thinking you'll seat the most people. The fact is that not everybody sits on a sofa. It's better to have individual seating rather than have everyone lined up on one piece of furniture where they feel like they're in a receiving line!

3. Cozy up
Of course, there is one great tried-and-true way to deal with small spaces: make them cozier. Soft upholstery can turn any tiny nook into an intimate and wonderful corner.

4. Reveal your true colours
If you love light and airy colours, then you'll love the way they also help small spaces feel just a bit larger. Cool colours like blue and green will also add to the effect. Think soothing tone-on-tone for paint techniques, fabrics, and patterns.

8 Ways to Save Water Without Spending a Dime

JMD eServices

1. Turn the water off while brushing your teeth.

2. Fill a milk jug with stones and place it in your toilet tank to displace water.

3. Dig up an egg timer from your kitchen and use it to cut showers down to 5 minutes.

4. Turn off the water while shaving.

5. Fix toilet and faucet leaks immediately.

6. Don't use your toilet as a trash can.

7. Collect "warm-up" water to irrigate your lawn and flowerbeds.

8. Conserve energy. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory estimates that .47 gallons of water are lost for every kilowatt-hour of power generated by coal power plants.

Market News

Toronto Real Estate Board

The Greater Toronto Area resale housing market recorded 9,411 transactions in May and even though this represents a 16% decline from May 2007 figures the 9,411 sales represents considerable market activity.

Prices in the GTA have increased by 4% since last May and in particular the City Of Toronto has recognized a 3% increase in the average price range which is now recorded at $434,271.

Quoting the President of The Toronto Real Estate Board Maureen O'Neill "Price gains show that real estate continues to be a solid investment for the consumer. We are confident about the market because employment in the GTA continues to be strong and interest rates remain low.

As long as consumers have the financial resources to buy homes and a variety of choices to manage carrying costs, the market should remain stable."
