Good People of St. Peter's: It's hard to believe that Advent is just around the corner! I love this time of year (despite my whining about the cold!). It is the season of preparation and watchfulness as we wait for the birth of our Lord. One of the ways we mark this season is by inviting members of the parish who have had advents or new beginnings to light the advent wreath. If you have had such an occasion,I hope you'll let me know. While there are only 4 Sundays, we try to work in as many folks as we can so that, collectively, as a parish, we may celebrate the new beginnings of our lives.
But before we get to Advent, many things have to happen! This weekend Allen Heinemann, Ricardo Villota and Carole Trapp, the three St. Peter's delegates elected by you at our annual meeting will join the St. Peter's Clergy (John Dally, Nancy Meyer, Norma Sutton and yours truly) at the annual Diocesan Convention. Convention an event that mixes educational opportunities with church business and legislation, conversation and a bit of dancing thrown in just for good measure. Others from the parish will also be there representing different agencies in the Diocese of Chicago including Joanna Gesicki with the Episcopal Church Women and Catherine Thomson with the Peace & Justice Commission. You can see more about it on the brand new Diocese of Chicago website. Please make sure to ask any of these people about their experience at Convention.
Last but not least, I want to remind you about a service opportunity. On Monday from 1-4 PM, a holiday lunch will be served for guests of North Side Housing and Supportive Services. If you'd like to join me in serving our guests, please let me know.
Peace & all good, Sarah+ |

North Side Housing Holiday Lunch
The Guests of the new Pantry, housed at St. Peter's, run by North Side Housing and Supportive Services, are being invited to a holiday lunch on Monday, November 21 from 1-4 PM. The lunch will be held in the Guild Room. North Side Housing will bring all the food, but we have been invited to help serve the meal. If possible, volunteers are asked to wear black pants and white shirts to create a restaurant style atmosphere. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the office at (773) 525-0844.
We are also collecting gently used coats that will be distributed to guests of the Pantry. If you have a coat that you would like to donate, please bring it by the office. Thanks! |

To expand our ministries and fully fund those we have now, our goal is 80 pledgers and $225,000. You can pick up a pledge card at the back of the church or ask one of the ushers for one. World AIDS Day
Aus tiefer Not/From Deepest Night, a new work for World AIDS Day by St. Peter's Artist-in-Residence John Addison Dally, brings together choral music, piano improvisation, speech choir, narration and monologue in a kind of sonic collage. It contrasts the continuing ravages of the bubonic plague in 16th Century Europe with the outbreak of AIDS worldwide in the 1980s and highlights the way art responds to devastating health crises.
Offered by St. Peter's as a benefit for Bonaventure House, a residential treatment facility in the Lakeview neighborhood, the work highlights the particular gifts of each of those communities. Saint Peter's unique blend of excellence in singing and speech arts will provide the context for monologues developed by two residents of Bonaventure House. The whole will be united by the poignant piano improvisations of Br. Nathanael Deward Rahm, BSG, St. Peter's organist and choirmaster. Come and experience this moving reflection on crisis and hope for World AIDS Day 2011. |
