Give and Take this Sunday

St. Peter's is inaugurating a new endowment -- the St. Peter's Perpetual Memorial -- to honor the living and memorialize our beloved dead. This Sunday, October 23, following the 11:00 AM service and Coffee Hour, the Vestry, Stewardship Ministry Team, and Finance Committee will host a give-and-take to share more information and answer your questions about this exciting opportunity.

Red Tape and Church History

Red Tape's production of Henrik Ibsen's Brand has been rightly praised by the critics as being Absorbing, Ambitious, and Surreal.  However, it is also a trenchant commentary on the history of the church and of faith.  To find out more, come and see Brand on Sunday, October 23rd .  Following the performance Graeme Thomson will be presenting an informal talk and discussion on church history, church politics and how they are central to a fuller understanding both of Brand and of Ibsen.

A Message from John Dally, Artist-in-Residence

Many thanks to the numerous folk from St. Peter's who took roles in the first two practica for my course at Seabury, "The Genesis and Genius of Anglicanism."  The next two practica are coming up October 28 and 29 at Grace Church, 924 Lake Street, Oak Park, and St. Peter's folk will be participating once again.  There is no cost to attend these events, but you do need to register by emailingSusan Quigley

  • Friday, October 28 7PM: A 16th Century Reformed Lord's Supper

Throughout the 16th Century in Europe Christians are again at risk, but this time it is from one another. As the Wars of Religion rage, reformers try to return the church to the supposed purity of its roots, while traditionalists reject such reforms as heresy. In a church stripped of crosses, candles and vestments, we gather not watch the miracle of transubtantiation but to offer the sacrifice of our grateful hearts, celebrating Holy Communion according to the Second Prayer Book of Edward VI, using a liturgical language quite new to our ears: English.  Parish musician Dennis Northway will present a lecture/demonstration with singers on music of the Tudor Reformation.

  • Saturday, October 29 11 AM: A Victorian Era Mattins

The British Empire now holds sway over a much greater swath of the earth than Romeever knew existed. The Wars of Religion are confined to history books and the Church of England rests comfortably on its well-to-do laurels. The Age of Mission gives us, among other innovations, the uniquely Anglican sound of sung Matins and Evensong. Come to Mattins 1874 and be inspired to conquer the world for Christ.  The choir of Grace Church will lead the singing and Dennis Northway will accompany.  Our own Fr. Jim Dunkerley will be the preacher, channeling the Bishop of Durham from 1874.
