Greetings!

Pick Fruit for Food Banks

Join the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council and the entire community for Citrus Sunday: May 3, 2009!

During this innovative community volunteer effort, thousands of pounds of fresh fruit are collected and delivered to food banks to benefit needy San Fernando Valley families.

"Citrus Sunday is a unique event because it offers people the chance to help needy Valley families directly, through a participatory community effort," said Councilman Greig Smith, whose 12th District includes Chatsworth.

Hunger and poverty are not often associated with our community. But there are nearly 170,000 people in the San Fernando Valley who do not know where their next meal will come from. The community responded overwhelmingly for last year's Citrus Sunday, and hundreds of individuals and volunteers collected tens of thousands of pounds of oranges, grapefruit and lemons. The nutritious fresh fruit was distributed to needy families at the food banks operated by the Chatsworth-based Valley Interfaith Council, the partner organization for Citrus Sunday.

Bring your washed citrus in plastic bags to Chatsworth fire stations between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Station 107 is at 20225 Devonshire St.  Station 96 is at 21800 Marilla St.
