MAYOR OF DALLAS DECLARES MARCH 10, 2008 REGISTERED DIETITIAN DAY

Dallas, Texas, March 6, 2008 - Mayor of Dallas, Tom Leppert, declares March, 10, 2008 and every second Monday in March thereafter Registered Dietitian Day. For the first time a new day will recognize the unique contributions that Registered Dietitians make not only to the health care team but throughout the food and nutrition community. Registered Dietitian Day is just one component of the annual National Nutrition Month that has occurred every March since 1980. This year, the theme is "Nutrition: It's a Matter of Fact."

Registered Dietitians are the food and nutrition experts who can translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living. The American Dietetic Association (ADA) created a top ten list of reasons why a Registered Dietitian would benefit you:

1.     You have diabetes, cardiovascular problems or high blood pressure

2.     You are thinking of having or have had gastric bypass surgery.

3.     You have digestive problems.

4.     You're pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

5.     You need guidance and confidence for breastfeeding your baby.

6.     Your teenager has issues with food and eating healthfully.

7.     You need to gain or lose weight.

8.     You're caring for an aging parent.

9.     You want to eat smarter.

10.   You want to improve your performance in sports.

The Dallas Dietetic Association (DDA) is an active, local ADA-affiliated association of over 300 Registered Dietitians in the Dallas metropolitan area. The DDA is available to arrange interviews with their members to discuss Registered Dietitian Day, National Nutrition Month or other hot topics in nutrition. Contact Angela Lemond, DDA's Public Relations Chair at angela.lemond@tx.rr.com or 972.727.1222.
