What Your Support Makes Possible
Dear friend of Citizens Project, Thank you so much for being part of the Citizens Project community! We write to share with you some of the major achievements your support makes possible as well as some of the exciting changes on the horizon for Citizens Project and the community. These are just a few highlights of our accomplishments this year:
- We launched our inaugural Citizens Religious Freedom Institute, educating 30 teachers, administrators, parents and students about separation of church and state in our schools (please plan to join us at our next CRFI in early 2011);
- Citizens Project published our monthly Freedom Watch Online, produced nonpartisan Voter Guides and forums for local elections (look for 2010 election materials and events in October on our website) and empowered nearly 1,500 local supporters to make their voices heard through more than 20 Action Alerts; and
- We worked with a diverse citizens committee that effectively persuaded City Council to re-establish a Human Relations Commission in Colorado Springs, ensuring an atmosphere of equal opportunity for all residents.
And, because of your support, we will build on these successes to be a voice for separation of church and state, inclusion, and civic engagement in the Pikes Peak region in the coming months and years. We also have exciting internal news to share. After nearly seven years with Citizens Project, Barb Van Hoy will be leaving at the end of August to be a full-time parent and a part-time dance teacher. The board, staff, and volunteers accepted her resignation with both sadness and excitement, as Kristy Milligan, Citizens Project's current development director and long-time volunteer and staff member, has accepted the position of executive director. This passing of the torch provides a seamless transition and facilitates the continuation of our great momentum. Citizens Project remains steadfast in our resolve to create a community that values religious freedom through separation of church and state, equality and diversity. We will continue to be a voice for our shared values, and with your help, that voice will only grow. Sincerely,
Barb Van Hoy Kristy Milligan
