Politics in the Pulpit "Churches and pastors have a constitutional right to speak freely and truthfully from the pulpit even on candidates and voting without fearing loss of their tax exemption." - from Alliance Defense Fund Web site Since 1954, churches and other non-profit organizations have been prohibited from supporting or opposing political candidates. The Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative Christian legal organization, has recently embarked on a campaign to reclaim pastors' right to speak scriptural truth about candidates. One Tennessee pastor has already started.
A Biblical Approach to Global Warming "We have decided as evangelical Christians that we can and must work together with environmentalists for the sake of the Earth." - Richard Cizik Concern among Christians for the environment has elevated to such levels that even Focus on the Family founder James Dobson is saying "We get it." The movement is widely attributed to Rev. Richard Cizik, the president of government affairs for the National Association of Evangelicals, who will visit Colorado Springs in September. Eliminating Rights in California "In the past few months, God made Himself evident throughout the course of bringing more than 1.1 million signatures to qualify for the ballot. . . The tremendous response from churches was never before seen in California, and the participation from religious communities continues to grow." - from CitizenLink eNewsletter Over the protests of the measure's sponsors, California's Proposition 8, to be voted on in November, will be described on the ballot as eliminating the right of same-sex couples to marry. But Focus on the Family Action's June 16, 2008 CitizenLink electronic newsletter assured its audience that all hope was not lost, since the voters will have the last word. Pray for Rain
Why? Not to relieve the droughts, but to wreak havoc with Barak Obama's planned open-air acceptance speech in Mile-High Stadium. Focus on the Family Action's Stuart Shepard caused an uproar last week when he suggested the prayer strategy to his viewers. Evangelicals For Obama
It's "the first time my mind hasn't been made up blindly that I'm going to vote Republican." - Cameron Strang
Young evangelical Christians across the United States are expanding the traditional notion of "pro-life" and finding their top concerns to be compatible with those of presidential candidate Barack Obama.
