Take Action: Ask Our State Senators to Support Nondiscrimination Protections for Gays and Lesbians
Senate Bill 200, "Expand Discrimination Prohibitions" would make it illegal to discriminate against gays and lesbians in housing, public accommodation, and consumer credit practices in Colorado. It will be heard by the State Senate Business, Labor, and Technology committee this coming Wednesday March 19, 2008.
Please call or email members of the Business, Labor, and Technology committee and ask them to stop discrimination and support SB 200.

Tips/Talking Points:
· Coloradans should never fear being kicked out of their apartment or denied service at a restaurant or hotel solely because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. This practice is currently legal.
· Just as it is wrong to deny someone public accommodation due to their race or gender (e.g. "whites only" drinking fountains), it is equally wrong to do so based solely on a person's sexual orientation.
· SB 200 creates a commission within the Colorado Civil Rights Division to mediate cases of discrimination. This creates both an easier way for victims to receive justice and avoids burdening the courts.
· Outlawing discrimination does not force anyone to change their beliefs, it only requires that people be treated with equal respect and fairness.
· Always be courteous and respectful in communications with legislators, and start your letter with "Dear Honorable Senator _________________"
