Frozen Treats
Do you have a favorite ice cream shop? It seems to us that nearly every person in Maine has a local frozen treat hut that they are loyal to and, let's be honest, patronize a fair amount over the course of the ice cream season. By "ice cream season", we mean the time that snowbanks are nearly all melted to the first hint of snowflakes in the fall. One of the first treats for our staff arrives during the end of tax season when our local Dairy Joy opens up!!
Summer outings with children so frequently include ice cream and it inevitably ends up melting all over the place, creating a wonderfully sticky mess.
Why are we talking about ice cream in our tax tips and staff newsletter? Because it has been a simply glorious summer and it seems only appropriate to remind everyone to enjoy the simple things in life every now and again.
While you're enjoying the summer, we'll be sure to keep an eye on your books, prepare your financial statement, conduct your audit... but rest assured, we'll also enjoy a frozen treat or two along the way.

IRS Increases Mileage Rate to
55.5 Cents per Mile 7/01/11
The Internal Revenue Service increased the optional standard mileage rates for the final six months of 2011. The rate will increase to 55.5 cents a mile for all business miles driven from July 1, 2011, through Dec. 31, 2011. This is an increase of 4.5 cents from the 51 cent rate in effect for the first six months of 2011.
The new six-month rate for computing deductible medical or moving expenses will also increase by 4.5 cents to 23.5 cents a mile, up from 19 cents for the first six months of 2011. The rate for providing services for charitable organizations is set by statute, not the IRS, and remains at 14 cents a mile. |
