It is time to HIRE
 President Obama signed the first major tax
bill of 2010 on March 18. The Hiring Incentives to
Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, is now law.
The HIRE Act allows employers who hire or rehire
employees who have been unemployed for 60 days
 or more a reduction in payroll taxes. A "qualified employee" must start work anytime after February 3, 2010 and before January 1, 2011. The reduction in payroll taxes is the  forgiveness of the employer share of Social Security of 6.2%. In addition, if the employee is retained for 52 weeks from the date of hire, the employer is entitled to a tax credit of up to $1,000 in 2011. These rules apply to full and part time
employees but do not apply to related parties.  The Act also extends Section 179 expensing at current levels through the end of 2010.

On February 5 we wore red in support of the American Heart Association's "Go Red For Women" campaign. The day long event brought people together across the nation to raise awareness of the number one killer of women: heart disease.
Austin Associates volunteers time to serve on the Executive Planning Committee for the American Heart Association.
Our staff forms a Heart Walk team each year to raise funds and walk together in the Androscoggin Heart Walk in September. This year the walk will start at the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwalk and wind up and down the the LA Trails along the Androscoggin River.
Rain or shine, we support heart health, increases in fitness education and advances in cardiovascular research.
