May/2011
Dear Athletes,

As usual, we have a lot to deliver! First, Coach Brett will be in Belize next week May 16-21 for an International Triathlon Union (ITU) coaching clinic. Coach Brett is the only American coach selected for this subsidized clinic!

Next, this is the time to have your bike fit dialed in. While many shops consider their 20 minute fits to be a bike fit. Coach Brett's bike fit is 2-4 hrs in length and offers free adjustments within the first 30 days of the initial fit as long as you have not made any bike adjustments. Coach Brett is offering his bike fit at a discounted rate of $200 for the remainder of May and June.

We have an exciting camp lined up for July and in par with Petersen Performance Lab's personalized service, space is very limited!

Salt Creek Triathlon Club has a great transition clinic lined up!

Coach Chris has written a very good article about running safely. Please visit our Blog

Yogis on the Run

When:  Sunday, May 22 1:00-3:30 p.m.

Where: Focus Yoga, Brookfield

Instructor: Jessica Niekrasz

During a one mile run, the foot will strike the ground an average of 1,000 times.  Add to that, the force of impact is three to four times your body weight.  So,it's no wonder why your feet, legs, hips and low back can feel so tight!

Looking to ease some of the negative aspects of high impact running?  Join dedicated runner, triathlete and certified yoga teacher Jessica Niekrasz for a 2 1/2 hour workshop specifically designed for the needs of runners.

The workshop will start with an optional 2 mile warm up run at 1:00 p.m. Once the muscles have been warmed up, you'll head to the mat (about 1:30) to lean about poses that specifically benefit runners.  Starting from the ground up, you'll learn how to provide relief to areas of the body most impacted by the repetitive motion of running.  Breath work will also be woven throughout practice to help enhance your experience.

All pace, flexibility (or lack there of)  and experience levels are welcome.  Start the running season out right by learning how to counteract the demands on the body with a supplemental yoga practice.  The workshop includes an electronic pose guide for all attendees.

The workshop will be held at:

Focus Yoga Studio

9047 Monroe Avenue

Brookfield

To register please visit Focus Yoga and click on the workshops link.

Dark Speed Works

Speedpack

From PPL Coach Greg Grunner

I am an associate coach at PPL and my small, Chicago-based company is making a brand new triathlon bike accessory, a new 'bento box'-type top tube carrier. Photos of the Speedpack and more info about it is linked below. We designed the Speedpack 480 to maximize the known aerodynamic advantages of top tube-mounted 'bento box'-type carriers.

We began by giving the pack a computer-designed aero shape unlike that of any other top tube carrier on the market. Initially, we wondered why no other company made anything similar and now we know why. The bag and its special shape is challenging to make as a sewn product and we had to come up with a few manufacturing tricks to get it done right. You can think of the Speedpack as a 'legal fairing' much like an aero helmet. Because, carried full or empty, the Speedpack should be on your bike if saving power and riding faster are your goals. We know the power savings is not huge, but with some athletes spending thousands to drop a few seconds, we can say that our pack delivers high value in the speed vs dollars equation. The made-in-USA Speedpack 480 has many unique features that reduce drag, improve function, ease usability, and maintainn durability (see link below). If you like the

idea of a tri product made by long time triathletes from a company that keeps jobs in the US instead of sending them overseas, then we would welcome your support and invite you to take a look at our website. We don't have many retailers yet, but you can easily buy the Speedpack online, direct from us. We welcome questions and feedback, all of our contact info is on our website. And if you know of any shops that should carry the Speedpack, please let us know.
