DOAS IN THE COMMUNITY |
On the evening of September 25, 2008, more than a dozen SPD employees suited up for fun, camaraderie and fitness at the Kaiser Run/Walk. The Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) was one of the 24 government agencies who ran or walked to "promote health and fitness among metro-Atlanta companies and their employees*." The event began with a group stretch and distribution of hydrants. Participants either ran individually or paired off to walk the 3-mile course. Some participants achieved personal bests, while other victories were of the social kind in that it was an opportunity to enjoy friends or family. Such was the case with Strategic Sourcing Specialist Trina Williams, who was one of the many who brought family to the event. Joined by both her daughter and mother, she claims "This was my first time doing the Run/Walk and it was memorable. My family was there-my daughter never walks-but as a result of this event, we will begin the tradition of walking together." All participants partook in the nights festivities following the race, which included food, t-shirts and giveaways. "It is a lot of fun whether you decided to run, walk or just hang out at the tent. It's touted as the largest office party with approximately 20,000 participating each year," said Budget Analyst and DOAS Team Co-Captain, Dan Dollar, who is a third year participant. "It was a successful event" said Vendor Relations Manager Hugh Farley. "Next year will be even better because we'll recruit an even larger number of DOAS employees."
