Greetings!
It's hard to believe we're already in September. In this issue we have included a sneak preview of our forthcoming 'Secrets of Time & Energy' workshop. You will find solutions to keep your spirits up during winter and timesaving tips to get the most from your working day.
Who was your best boss ever? This is a question we posed to participants on our recent Inspirational Leadership course. What we found was that all the top bosses had at least one thing in common. They intentionally used their talents to show others just how good they could be.
Our 'How to be a Great Boss' workshop will give leaders the ability to show others just how good they can be. Through praise, support, encouragement, questioning, you too can be someone's "best ever boss" and we've included some free preview tips from this course below.
If you missed the Inspirational Leadership course in August, don't panic! We will be running it again in November. Email us at hello@real-result.co.uk to request a free report on the previous session, including what the participants said, the evaluation output and a sample of the material.
The newsletter comes to you quarterly because you are a valued client or contact of Real Results Training and/or its founder, Carolyn Blunt.
Every quarter we send you the latest tips, ideas and hot topics from the world of training and people development.
Please feel free to forward this newsletter to your contacts and if you have any preferred topics you would like us to feature in forthcoming issues please get in touch! |
| THE SECRETS OF TIME & ENERGY |
|
Secret #1 There is no point trying to 'manage time' all you can do is manage yourself.
At the 'Secrets of Time and Energy' workshop on 11th December we will explore in detail why some people find organisation comes easily to them and for others it is a discipline that has to be learned. (I know this because I'm one of those poor people that has had to learn it the hard way!) Although I have flexibility, spontaneity and creative flair, these positives can be overlooked if I am seen to be unprofessional by being disorganised, always running late and unstructured. Running two companies and being a board member of a third and a mother of a toddler has put a few extra demands on my time in recent years. Which leads me to Secret # 2.
Secret # 2 Know your core strengths and delegate outside of them.
Some things are just draining for me to do and are not the best use of my time or skills. I identify those and find good people (recommendations worked best for me) to help me out. I would rather do what I enjoy and pass the money I earn on to them than save the money and struggle on, wasting twice as much time. Delegating is also good for your team, it helps to build their knowledge, skills and confidence (as long as you are delegating and not dumping -there is a difference -we explore this in the workshop on 11th December.)
Secret # 3 Know your optimum concentration and sleep patterns, make the right diet and lifestyle choices for you.
Cold, dark winter mornings are just around the corner and we have some tips for making bouncing out of your warm, comfortable bed every morning much easier. Equally too much sleep makes you groggy (-Sunday afternoons anyone?) Find out what works best for you (even if this flies in the face of convention!) and stick to it, even at weekends. You'll have more energy as a result. Are you a morning person or do you get a rush of energy in the evenings? Fit your most difficult tasks into your optimum energy times. Block time for making your outbound telephone calls, you'll get into a 'flow' and they'll be done faster. Beware of the 'slump' from coffee and chocolate and switch to bananas and water or hot herbal or fruit drinks to give you a sustained energy level through the day.
Secret # 4 Make time for what you enjoy
Even it is only ten minutes breathing in fresh air in a quiet park, marvelling at the colours of autumn or the marbled skies. Do something fulfilling that you enjoy, read a chapter of a good book, play a board game with your family or take a long hot bath. Just a short time each day will restore and recharge the batteries and give memorable purpose to your day. On 11th December we'll find out what your concentration cycle is, how you get motivated and what your big time stealers are. We will also be joined by an expert nutritionalist who will be on hand to advise you on your own personal dietary choices. |

| HOW TO BE A GREAT BOSS |
|
Do you ever have resistance from your team members about completing essential tasks? Is it sometimes a challenge to get them to do what you need in the time given?
Have you ever noticed slipping team standards? People 'getting away with too much' or a general disregard for rules and quality?
A great boss achieves results through people by inspiring and motivating every individual to work hard for them and for the organisation, not just because they are being paid to, but because they want to do it.
This is done through effective coaching and communication. This coaching needs to include exposure to new challenges with support, encouragement and feedback. The communication skills of a great boss are enthusiastic, clear and positive. They can question effectively, cut through generalisations and 'read' the body language of their team members. Simple eye movements tell us a lot!
In the 'How to be a Great Boss' workshop on Tuesday 29th January, you will be one of the first to get our step-by-step guide of tell tale body language signals; enabling you to show genuine concern to each of your team members and discover their motivational 'keys'.
Great bosses still need to correct behaviour and deal with poor performers and set standards for the team. However, it can be a dreaded task that can make us feel 'parental', unpopular and in some cases uncomfortable. This discomfort that surrounds constructive feedback can be evident in body language and the brief, vague message that is often delivered. The consequence can be slipping team standards, 'getting away with too much' and a general disregard for rules and quality. The 'How to be a Great Boss' workshop on Tuesday 29th January will give practical tips and phrases for high impact corrective feedback without losing morale, giving you the opportunity to be the best boss your people ever had. |

We hope you found this newletter useful. Your emails to us over the last quarter encouraged themes of 'time and energy' and 'great leadership'. We did intend to write about succession planning and customer service, perhaps we'll do those next time!
We are always interested to hear any feedback you may have on the newsletter and any suggestions for future content -we do listen! Email me at carolyn@real-results.co.uk
Until next time, keep those winter blues away and those teams motivated!
