Local Artist of the Month:  Kim Werfel

ss july 2011 werfel dog portrait

Studio Supply is proud to welcome Kim Werfel as our Local Artist of the Month for July. An artist and teacher who paints pastel portraits of people and animals, Kim is best known for sensitive, impressionistic colors, which convey personality and spirit as well as a remarkable likeness of her subjects.

The following is from her artist's statment:

"I want to capture the spirit within, the glint of an eye, the tilt of a head with light, color and atmosphere. More than just a likeness, I strive to capture the inner essence and personality.

My work enjoys impressionistic colors, lost and found edges and complimentary backgrounds. I communicate different moods with color, unusual cropping and intimate points of view. Pastel perfectly expresses the sensitivity and softness of an animal's fur or a child's skin.

I am honored to be able to create these personal portraits that enable others to remember their loved ones, be they family, friends or animal companions.  Portraits often become beautiful heirlooms that are passed down for future generations to enjoy and treasure."
