Every year we encounter many students who are frustrated about the general lack of knowledge around social justice issues and issues of human rights. At Penumbra, these students find a safe space to stretch. Our curriculum is designed to process thoughts and feelings about these issues. Our teaching artists promote empathy and awareness, guiding students toward accountability and action. The experience is enlightening and empowering as students begin to see themselves as social change agents.

Penumbra is now making this instructive experience available in a workshop format for your classroom! We use theatre as a forum for dialogue and action. Students have the opportunity to try various theatre techniques that respond directly to the issues that impact them daily.
Students interested in exploring theatre as a tool for social change can sign up for more information about our renowned Summer Institute Program.
