Line 9: Incident Narrative - A midnight shift CO was walking past the shower making rounds when two inmates attacked him. One of them hit the CO in the head with a part of a cell door used for giving inmates food,

The CO collapsed and one of the inmates took the CO Padilla's keys and radio while the other held him down, and the two left the jail.  The CO suffered head injures which required multiple stitches.

Line 10: Additional Info - As a result of the incident, Socorro County Sheriff's deputies and officers with the Socorro Police Department worked with detention center guards to escort most of the jail population into transport vans on Thursday.

A number of inmates have been transported to several other facilities around the region .  The inmates were transferred for the safety of detention center employees.

None of the inmates near the area of the attack were willing to cooperate with questioning about the incident according to sources close to the investigation.

The escape was caught on video tape.

The escapees will face multiple
felonies charges ranging from escape from jail, conspiracy to escape from jail, assault, aggravated battery on a peace officer, assault with intent to commit violent felony on a peace officer, possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner and tampering with evidence.

Safety of detention center employees has been a concern in recent weeks. Prior to this incident the facility has experienced a number of inmate security concerns.
