It has been confirmed that a disturbance occurring just after 1 p.m.
today at CCI Tehachapi resulted in the ground transport of three
corrections officers to undisclosed area hospitals, and the medevac of
one inmate by Mercy Air-14, out of Mojave. The condition of the injured
men is not known at this time.
"Three staff members were attacked by two inmates with "Shanks," the entire facility remains on lockdown at this time. All rec yards were closed as soon as the attacks happened. Verification was being made if this incident prompted a incidents at other facilities.
Agency SERT and all available shift personnel were dispatched and a variety of weapons and force was used to thwart the attack and rescue the officers. A number of staff members were exposed to potential blood-borne pathogens and are being treated at the time of this report. 1 Inmate was air lifted by a Mojave based helicopter, The helicopter was authorized to land inside the secure compound just after 2:30 p.m. Line 10: Additional Information - Several phone calls were made by the TOC Duty officer and confirmed that the CO's were in stable condition and that they consisted of 2 Sgts, and 1 CO. Line 11: Assessment:The attackers are known members of a
Southern California, Hispanic prison gang. The gang connection has
caused CDCR to authorize a statewide prison lockdown until
it can be confirmed whether or not the attack was an isolated incident.
Two weapons were recovered at the scene of Unit 4A, a general population, maximum security wing.
CCI and SERT will provide special
transport to relocate any inmates known to be involved
