Patricia Buckley Ebrey
UW Chinese History professor
and author of
Accumulating Culture: The Collections of Emperor Huizong
DATE: Tuesday, December 2
TIME: 7 p.m.
LOCATION: Walker-Ames Room, Kane Hall, University of Washington
Sponsored by the China Studies Program, East Asia Center, and University of Washington Press.
MORE: Emperor Huizong amassed an
incredible collection of art during the Song dynasty
(960-1279 CE), and his
catalogues list over 9,000 items.
The tiny fraction that survive today are among the
masterpieces of Chinese art. Ebrey explores Huizong's
collections and places them in
both political and art historical
context, showing that the acts of adding to and cataloguing
the imperial collections
were political ones.
