Explore ridesharing and you could be a winner
Rideshare to Work month art

Discover the benefits of carpooling or vanpooling during October Rideshare to Work month. You could win a Kindle Fire or Netbook just for exploring your options.

Metro Transit's online system makes it easy to look for others interested in sharing a ride. Just set up a commuter account, enter your commute information and search for potential carpool partners. You become eligible to win if you create a public profile and conduct an online ridematching search. That's all. Get the details from

Metro Transit

You can still get home quickly and easily

If you carpool or vanpool to work at least three times per week, you're eligible for the Guaranteed Ride Home program in case you have to work late or hurry home in an emergency.

Promote pedestrian safety in deadliest month of year
Pedestrian safety campaign
Smart Trips staff helped promote pedestrian safety in downtown St. Paul last week as part of MnDOT's Pedestrian Safety campaign launch. MnDOT timed the event to highlight that October is the most dangerous month in Minnesota for pedestrians.

The initiative has messages for motorists and pedestrians, urging them to be more alert and aware. The banner in the photo is modeled after billboards that read "Hey drivers. Stop for pedestrians at every corner. It's the law."

Saint Paul City Council approved the proposed Charles Avenue redesign plans with a 5-2 vote at their meeting Sept. 5th.

Smart Trips Executive Director Jessica Treat was among those testifying in support of the proposed design that will help improve safety for bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists.

Planned changes include adding a median on Snelling at Charles to prevent automobile left turns, adding nine traffic circles, and creating better pedestrian refuges at busy intersections at Hamline, Lexington, Dale and Marion.

Charles Avenue redesign work will begin in 2013.
