A resolution to accept funds for constructing a landscaped median on Snelling Avenue between St. Clair and Grand Avenues has been introduced to the Saint Paul City Council. The goal of the project is "to transform a freeway-like setting to a parkway-like setting... to increase pedestrian safety, aesthetics and, in the long run, increased property values."

The project has been in the works for 4 years and now more than $1.2 million in project funding has been secured without the use of any local tax dollars. Community partners include the Macalester-Groveland Community Council, their Transportation Committee, Transit for Livable Communities, St. Paul Smart Trips and individual neighbors.

Tom Welna, director of Macalester College's High Winds Fund for maintaining beauty and security in the area surrounding campus, is calling for strong public support for this project in order to get a majority vote from the City Council.
