ST THOMAS RESIDENCE  |  US VIRGIN ISLANDS

St Thomas Residence

The site resides within the secluded Preserve at Botany Bay, sloping over two hundred feet from the access road down to the ocean. The driveway, with entry gate reading "Life's a Beach", leads to an autocourt in front of the garage with caretakers' apartment above.

The architecture of the main house is delineated by both form and material pallet, a wood panel system and white stucco, paired with richly colored native vegetation and slate-clad site walls.

Currently under construction, the high performance home features a comprehensive automation system, remotely deployable hurricane shutters, and superb energy performance.

Building Energy Presentation

Building Energy 2012

ZED's Stephanie Horowitz AIA and Jordan Goldman will be presenting at the 2012 Building Energy convention, in Track 3 - The Boston Society of Architects Residential Track.

SESSION:

The Calculated Path to Zero Energy

An architect and an engineer will discuss the collaborative design process and outcomes for two projects, both super-insulated high performance homes;  one currently in design (new construction) and one completed (deep energy retrofit). The common theme is the use of energy analysis during the design process in order to achieve the desired combination of aesthetics and performance. The session will focus on energy modeling and its influence on construction details and systems in high performance buildings systems, including actual energy use information at a granular level. The projects address both traditional design in existing construction and contemporary design in new construction.
