ZeroEnergy Design Joins Governor's Task Force |
|
ZeroEnergy Design recently joined Governor Deval Patrick's Massachusetts Net Zero Energy Buildings Task Force, a group help the state's public and private sectors design and construct super-efficient "green" buildings. Our firm is proud to be a member working on the residential standards.
The Governor has called on the task force to make a series of recommendations, including: "for private development, point the way toward broad marketability of zero net energy residential and commercial buildings by 2020, and statewide adoption of zero net energy buildings for new construction by 2030".
|
| Zero Net Energy Commercial Buildings |
|
At Clean Tech Open, the US Department of Energy announced the formation of two efforts to create marketable zero-net energy commerical buildings.
An exerpt from the announcement: "In 2005, commercial buildings used 18 percent of energy in the United States, accounting for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. The Zero-Net Energy CBI strives to make new commercial buildings capable of generating as much energy as they consume available by 2025. Energy generation will be achieved through advanced energy efficiency technologies and on-site renewable energy generation systems, such as solar power and geothermal energy."

| California Adopts Statewide Green Building Code |
|
California continues its progressive tradition with a new statewide green building code. Exerpts for Builder Magazine:
"Members of the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) voted 10 to 0 in favor of new provisions mandating reductions in building energy use, conservation of potable water, job-site erosion control, recycling of construction waste, and a range of steps to improve indoor air quality."
"The new requirements will take effect in phases over three years, starting with energy efficiency. The California Energy Commission's Residential Energy Efficiency Standard will become 20 percent more stringent starting on July 1, 2009, making the California energy code about 50 percent tougher than the model International Energy Efficiency Code (IEEC). Moisture control, indoor air quality, and waste recycling rules will become effective in January of 2011, and rules mandating a 20 percent reduction in building potable water use will take effect in July 2011."
