Post Tensioning Ironworker Certification News and Information
January 2010 |
|
|
Greetings!
Happy New Year and Good Bye to 2009!
Well, its a new year and I hope that 2010 is better to our industry than last year. This year kicks off with World of Concrete in Las Vegas, February 1st - 5th. I know that some companies in our industry have decided not exhibit this year, us included, but in talking to many of you it does sound like attendance will stay at least as strong as last year. That's good news for those of you who are exhibiting. Read below for a summary of the post-tensioning related exhibitors and educational opportunities that count towards certification renewal.
Sincerely,
--Jim Rogers

Times Are Tough - Stay Certified!
It is still not a good time for our industry. Many people are out of work. The last report in Engineering News Record put national construction unemployment at over 26%. During these times it is important to maintain your qualifications and stay certified so you are prepared for the work that does come up. We have made a decision to stop charging for certification renewals for anyone who expired in 2009 or who is expiring in 2010. We would rather see everyone stay certified so that the workforce is ready when things recover. Renewal still requires fulfilling the continuing education requirements, but there are many opportunities to get this done.
The continuing education requirements state that you must earn and report credits when you renew your certification. This is to help insure that people certified under the Post Tensioning Ironworker Certification program are trained, skilled, and knowledgeable. Many of the credits needed can be earned through post-tension field experience, but a minimum of at least 2 hours must be earned in classes or seminars (called Level 2 credits). Sources for these can include journeyman upgrading classes taught at your local apprenticeship school, supplier training programs, and other industry sponsored seminars. To download a complete renewal package with instructions, click here.
Read below about the opportunities to earn level 2 credits during the World of Concrete in Las Vegas. |

Use your time at World of Concrete to earn your CEU's for Certification Renewal
In order to renew your Post Tensioning Ironworker Certification, you need to earn at least two of your education credits in a class or seminar (see article above). There are several opportunities to do this at World of Concrete next week.
One opportunity is being conducted on Thursday, February 4th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, by ADAPT Corporation. This four hour seminar will cover post-tensioning theory and construction topics, and will cover some design basics. This seminar will be a great opportunity to brush up on principles and theory and will be very valuable to any of you who have gone into the detailing side of the business. This course is offered directly by ADAPT and requires separate registration. You can download a form by clicking here.
Additional opportunities are available through several World of Concrete Seminars. This includes Engineering 101 for Contractors (Course #WE110) which is approved for 1.5 credits, and Reinforcement for Slabs-On-Ground (Course #MO30) which is a 3 hour course that we have approved for 1 credit for certification renewal. Registration for these two courses can be done through the World of Concrete as a part of your show registration. If you still need to register for the show, click here!
All of the courses described here qualify for Level 2 CEU's for renewal of Post Tensioning Ironworker Certification. |
