| VANLOVER CAMPAIGN DRIVES TRAFFIC Pedestrian Levels Return to Post-Riot Levels
Three days after the June 15 Stanley Cup riots, the DVIBA and partners launched the Vanlover campaign to encourage Vancouverites to come back downtown to dine, shop and enjoy - and it worked. Recent pedestrian counts by Downtown Ambassadors show that Vancouverites haven't let one bad night impact their willingness to come back downtown. In fact, the summer festival season kicked off in style with Latincouver on Granville Street June 26 with 15,000+ visitors enjoying the event as part of Viva Vancouver - pedestrian-only activations - on Granville Street every weekend. The initiative is co-sponsored by the DVBIA and City of Vancouver. And, on Canada Day, more than 200,000 attendees visited Canada Place among other downtown venues.
The DVBIA continues to support and encourage festivals and events in the downtown. The DVBIA also continues to encourage everyone to patronize those 60 businesses impacted directly by the riots. See the Google map.
Last week, the Vancouver Restoration Fund was established to financially support businesses impacted. The DVBIA is an active fund task force partner. To donate to the fund or apply visit: www.vancouvereconomic.com.

| SUNDAY AFTERNOON SALSA Dancing Returns to Robson Square
Don't be surprised to see steam rising from Robson Square on Sundays this summer. Sunday Afternoon Salsa heats up the dance floor (formerly the ice rink) at Robson Square every Sunday afternoon in July and August this summer from 3pm - 7pm.
The weekly dances are a chance to pretend you're in Havana and dancing salsa the way it was meant to be: outdoors in the summer heat, in the heart of the city. And best of all it's free. The series is sponsored by the DVBIA. Try out the lessons from 3 to 3:30pm., or if you're still too shy to shake it, take in the performances that happen at 5pm - and just try to stand still. | CULTURAL AMENITIES DOWNTOWN Pacific Cinémathèque Lobbies for New Home
After 25 years at 1131 Howe Street, Pacific Cinémathèque - one of North America's most active film institutes - has outgrown its cramped, aging facility and needs a new home.
The current location lacks sufficient space to properly house the West Coast Film Archive, Film Reference Library, its award-winning youth education programs, and other important public programming designed to serve the community.
An opportunity exists to provide a new home for Pacific Cinémathèque in a state-of-the-art film institute, media education centre and cultural venue within the proposed TELUS Garden development in downtown Vancouver. Learn more and support the efforts to grow an important cultural amenity in downtown Vancouver. More
